Job Profile Summary
Technician I, Outside Plant enhances the operations of the field operations team. This entry-level position involves working with copper lines, fiber optic lines, and radio systems to ensure robust telecommunications services. This role regularly interfaces with both residential customers and business clients, necessitating strong technical skills, effective troubleshooting abilities, basic computer knowledge, and excellent communication skills. The technician will report to the Outside Plant Supervisor and play a key role in maintaining the high standards of Commnet's network reliability and customer satisfaction.
Duties and Responsibilities (included but not limited to):
- Installs, tests, and repairs network equipment including fiber optic, copper, and radio systems; evaluates job sites for optimal service placement and performs necessary documentation of all tasks.
- Diagnoses and resolves issues with fiber optic, copper, and radio equipment, as well as assists other departments remotely to troubleshoot network equipment; handles emergency callouts and after-hour issues as needed.
- Works with both aerial and buried plant infrastructure across varying weather conditions; operates a range of heavy equipment such as aerial trucks, trenchers, and bucket trucks.
- Ensures high-quality customer service and professional interactions with both residential and business clients, maintaining a focus on customer satisfaction and professional appearance.
- Adheres to safety protocols while operating equipment and climbing ladders up to 30’ extensions; keeps abreast of technology changes and industry regulations to ensure compliance.
- Independently manages inventory, personal stocking duties, and maintains the efficient operation and appearance of assigned vehicles and equipment.
- Available to work evenings, weekends, and perform other responsibilities as required to fulfill job functions.

Required Qualifications:
- Minimum Years Experience: 0 -1 Yrs., no prior related experience required.
- Minimum Education: High School / Trade School or equivalent experience

- Valid state driver's license required and must reside within 45 minutes of the reporting location.
- Must be physically fit to perform strenuous activities, including the ability to bend, stoop, squat, lift up to 70 lbs., and work overhead for extended periods.
- Demonstrates regular and reliable attendance, and the ability to work in diverse weather conditions and willingness to work unscheduled overtime.
- Capable of climbing poles up to 18 feet and ladders up to 30 feet.
- Must be able to distinguish between different wire and cable colors.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficient in Windows OS, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant software programs. In-depth knowledge of home/SOHO network terms such as IP, DHCP, Wi-Fi, and RJ45.
- Experience in installing and troubleshooting advanced network technologies such as T1, DSO, digital loop carriers, high-speed internet, and wireless radios.
- Working knowledge of various test and locate equipment for network facilities and buried infrastructure, including Similar to EXFO, JDSU, VIAVI, OTDRs, and locate equipment for fiber optics and copper cable.
