Job Summary
The Director of Sustainability will be tasked with conveying the organization’s sustainability vision and initiatives to the sales team, customers, and associates. Acting as an advocate and liaison with trade organizations and interest groups such as USGBC, Carbon Leadership Forum, and International Living Future Institute, the role will involve delivering presentations, participating in meetings, conducting mill tours, and managing virtual calls. Business trips and attendance at designated trade shows may also be required to engage with the sales team and their customers.
The Director will collaborate with sales and marketing leaders to design and implement strategic sustainability-focused marketing programs, branding campaigns, and events aimed at raising awareness both internally and externally. This role will be responsible for creating targeted communications, positioning, and collateral in close cooperation with internal stakeholders, and partnering with technical teams and senior management to achieve sustainability business objectives.
Additionally, the Director will act as the ESG expert and advocate for the sales team, customers, and internal staff, handling inquiries related to environmental initiatives on RFPs, RFIs, and RFQs. The role will also involve coordinating with operational business functions to ensure that all relevant sustainability data, including recycled content data, the online LEED Calculator, and sustainability website information, is updated and maintained. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Minimum Qualification:
- LEED-AP Certified
- Degree with a focus on Environmental or Sustainability Science
- Proven project management experience
- At least three years of recent experience in developing and communicating sustainability issues
- Superior written communication skills with a keen attention to detail
- Excellent presentation skills, capable of articulating program details to small groups and senior management
- Highly organized and self-motivated
- Proficient in word processing and Microsoft Office programs
- Willingness to work variable hours as needed
- Willingness to travel 30%-40%
