Principal Systems Engineer
Job Overview: We are seeking a Principal Systems Engineer for our office in Gaithersburg, MD. This position involves system design and definition of air interfaces for next-generation LEO/MEO/GEO satellite communication systems. The successful candidate will play a critical role in developing innovative solutions for customers in fixed, aeronautical, land-mobile, and maritime domains.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze system requirements and develop system architectures and solutions to meet customer needs.
- Develop subsystem requirements, specifications, and conduct technical evaluations.
- Define scheduling algorithms to meet Quality of Service (QoS) requirements.
- Conduct link layer and upper layer simulations, including link adaptation and power control.
- Adapt 3GPP protocols for efficient operation in satellite environments.
- Develop constellation modeling and analysis for LEO/MEO/GEO satellite systems and perform end-to-end performance analyses.
- Document detailed designs and present them internally and to external customers.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 10+ years of expertise in wireless communications systems theory, analysis, and protocols.
- 5+ years of experience in end-to-end system design of wireless systems and protocols.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in Electrical Engineering.
- Strong analytical and modeling skills for evaluating performance in LEO/MEO/GEO systems.
- Experience with simulation tools such as OPNET/OMNET/OMNEST and MATLAB.
- Strong familiarity with 3GPP 4G and 5G protocols.
- Experience in designing scheduling algorithms to meet QoS requirements.
- Comfort with physical layer aspects of the design, ability to work in a cross-disciplined environment, and develop cross-layer hybrid solutions.
