Advocating for excellence in education since 1852, the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA) is a labor organization with over 250 employees and offices across the state. PSEA employs 78 labor relations specialists known as “UniServ Representatives” who provide representational and advocacy expertise and support to PSEA local unions and members. UniServ Representatives work to build strong local unions that operate at full capacity to negotiate and advocate for public education employees to earn competitive salaries/benefits and enjoy outstanding working conditions.
PSEA is seeking highly motivated and well-qualified individuals to fill UniServ Representative positions located in PSEA’s 12 field office locations throughout the Commonwealth. There are immediate and anticipated vacancies throughout Pennsylvania.
What do UniServ Representatives do? They bargain and protect contracts, process grievances, advocate and problem solve, organize members around employment, workplace and education issues, train members, and provide other needed support to local unions and members. UniServ Representatives must be available, accessible, and responsive to members and locals, and willing and able to commit the necessary time to satisfy the demands of the job. There is some flexibility in the daily work schedule with the potential necessity for a significant amount of work time to occur in the evening and on some weekends.
Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree (required) in a relevant field, the demonstrated ability to effectively represent school employees through collective bargaining and contract enforcement processes, an understanding of, and belief in, public education, knowledge of labor relations, strong interpersonal skills, outstanding oral and written communications, and the ability to work in a largely autonomous work environment.
