Job Summary
The RN-Hyperbaric Medicine provides care for a specific patient population with various conditions requiring hyperbaric oxygen treatment. Maintains constant contact with patients to ensure safety, patient comfort and calmness, and instruct patient regarding breathing technique. Serves as a resource for other health care professionals, patients, families, and the community.

Accountabilities
Under the guidance of a diving / hyperbaric medicine physician, is able to perform assessment / reassessment of the physical and educational needs of patients with any condition requiring hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Communicates patient needs to appropriate members of the health care team. Provides discharge teaching as required. Assists with referrals for studies, labs, procedures, and other physicians.
Under the guidance of a diving / hyperbaric medicine physician carries out hyperbaric treatment plans, operates the hyperbaric chamber through all phases of treatment, and monitors the patient during the time patients are within the pressure chamber.
Under the guidance of a diving / hyperbaric medicine physician sets up and operates ancillary equipment including hyperbaric infusion pumps, ventilators, air masks/face tents/trach collars, transcutaneous oximeters, and arterial and central venous pressure monitors.
Under the guidance of a diving / hyperbaric medicine physician performs transcutaneous oximetric evaluations.
Maintains safe, comfortable, clean, and therapeutic environment for patients and families per established departmental polices.
Keeps documentation via EMR current including accurate documentation of facility charges.
Participate in call rotation for urgent/emergent treatment indications

Hiring Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
2 years nursing experience.
Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in South Carolina
Certified Hyperbaric Technician or Certified Hyperbaric Registered Nurse preferred
Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities
Attend and successfully complete a National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine Technology approved 40 hour primary training course in undersea and hyperbaric medicine required
Achieve certification as a hyperbaric technologist (CHT) or hyperbaric registered nurse (CHRN) within 12 months of employment. Maintain board certification through CEUs required.
Interest and experience in diving and hyperbaric medicine - Preferred
In Lieu of
In lieu of the BSN requirement above, a nursing diploma or an Associate's Degree in Nursing may be considered if the applicant signs a Memorandum of Understanding agreeing to enroll in an accredited BSN or MSN program within one year and obtain a BSN or MSN degree within four years.
