Position Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Essential Functions of CFO:
Finance
- Oversees all aspects of Gleaners’ financial management including: transactional accounting, treasury management, financial reporting, payroll, annual and other audits, financial analysis, investment/endowment performance oversight, banking and related relationships, and maintenance of all internal controls.
- Oversees all financial matters relating to Gleaners’ food bank supporting operations, Fresh Connect Central, and all other earned revenue enterprises and/or fee-based revenue generation operations.
- Prepares, manages, and monitors Gleaner’s annual fiscal budget and processes to meet strategic goals, including regular communication of risks and progress to SLT Finance Committee, and Board.
- Oversees monthly assessments of financial performance against budget and other relevant organizational goals.
- Ensures business analytics and managerial reporting are robust, timely, and meet the needs of Gleaners, including the SLT, CEO, and Board.
- Ensures all compliance with GAAP standards, Feeding America guidelines, and all appliable state and federal laws and regulations. Also ensures that Gleaners financial systems and controls are adequate to protect the assets and reputation of Gleaners, including long-term financial sustainability.
- Interacts with CEO, SLT, Board Treasurer, and other Gleaners’ leaders to provide consultive support to planning initiatives through financial management information analysis, reports, and recommendations.
- Develops, maintains, and monitors all fundraising and accounting systems and procedures capturing all donations, pledges, billings, and receipts, and for the recording of all revenue transactions, including ensuring appropriate controls to enable needed reporting and oversights of grants and restricted funds.
- Develops, monitors, and reports on government and other grant budgets as well as donor contributions in accordance with relevant restrictions, guidelines and deadlines. Ensures appropriate controls exist to enable needed reporting and oversight of grants and restricted funds.
- Utilizes forward-looking predictive financial models, to provide critical financial and operational information to the CEO and SLT to evaluate strategic alternatives and considerations.
- In coordination with the Chief Administrative Officer, acts as plan administrator of the Food Bank’s 403(b) retirement account and ensure the plan is fully compliant with state and federal regulations.
- Supports Board’s Finance Committee, including timely preparation of financial statements, meeting agendas and minutes; preparation of governance-level reports and charts; monitoring governance-level financial policies; and ongoing communication with committee and task force chairs.
- Oversees the annual development of a recommended Success Sharing Incentive Plan (“SSIP’) for consideration and adoption by the Board’s Executive Committee.
Information Technology
- Oversees all aspects of developing and executing an overall information technology strategy for Gleaners, and the alignment of that strategy with Gleaners overall business strategy.
- Oversees information technology applications and relationships with vendors, technology and software changes and/or upgrades in collaboration with managed information technology service provider and internal departments.
- Assesses and mitigates risks and ensures compliance with regulations associated with information technology investments, cybersecurity, and data privacy.
Risk Management
- Assesses and ensures appropriate plans exist to mitigate Gleaners’ business risks.
- Oversees the development and maintenance of Gleaners’ business continuity programs.
- Ensures that Gleaners’ insurance needs are aligned with Gleaners financial and overall goals.
- Manages risk and compliance for Gleaners health benefits, other insurance policies, 403B, and the like.
- Reviews and recommends to the CEO all Gleaners’ agreements, contracts, leases, loans, MOUs, including obtaining legal counsel as needed.
Personnel Management, Leadership, and Collaboration
- Provides supervision, coaching, training, and evaluation for direct reports.
- Motivates staff to be an effective part of the Gleaners team to work toward achieving its goals.
- Promotes and achieves a positive work environment.
- Serves as an active member of the SLT and participates in organizational development and strategic planning activities.
- Ensures that established team and organizational objectives are met or exceeded.
Skills/Qualifications of CFO:
Education and/or Experience of CFO:
- Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.
- MBA and/or CPA preferred.
- Experience in high level accounting, finance, or business management, with supervisory experience is preferred.

Certifications/Licenses of CFO:
- Valid driver's license and insurable by company vehicle insurance provider.
Work Environment & Physical Demands of CFO:
- Ability to push, pull, lift, move and carry up to 25 pounds at least 1% of the time.
- Ability to sit, stand, speak clearly, see, feel and have manual dexterity, and drive.
- Both an office and a warehouse environment.
- Maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the demands of the position.
- Travel up to 5-10 % of the time, with occasional overnight stays.
- Frequent use of computer and software systems.
