Reporting to: Technical Design Director
Brand/Product Focus: Men’s & Women’s Activewear & Outerwear
Location (On-Site): New York City, Midtown Manhattan – Fashion District
Success Profile:
The Technical Designer manages the product lifecycle from sketch through TOP. Creates and updates tech packs for all sportswear. Works collaboratively with Design to update measurements and ensure construction.
Key Accountabilities:
- Product Lifecycle Management: Create initial specs from sketch through TOP through approval; Collaborate with Design and Production team
- Technical Specification: Generate computerized technical specification packages; Review and evaluate samples for spec, pattern, shape, and construction; Consult with Designers to work through complicated garment construction to establish fit; collaborate with design to update measurements and specifications for the tech pack
- Spec & evaluate samples, & prepare them for the fitting
- Communication: Communicate with overseas offices and vendors to identify and resolve issues with garment construction and production; Create and manages production fit chart for development tracking and garment delivery
- Corrections and Approvals: Creating fit comments using Gerber Yunique PLM or equivalent. Utilize digital photos, technical sketches, detailed instructions and comments from fitting to communicate corrections & resolve technical issues
- Testing: Request Factory and Mill testing for fabric, leather, etc.; Verify fabric quality; Confirm product care and content
- Spec library Management: Organize and update spec library
Education and Experience:
- Seven plus years of Technical Design experience with patternmaking & grading or technical design knowledge must
- AAS or BA College degree, or equivalent professional work experience required
Skills and Behaviors:
- Working knowledge of PLM, PowerPoint, Excel
- Strong project management and multi-tasking skills with good attention to detail
- Confident, engaging verbal and written communication skills
- Following up to meet all established deadlines
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with other departments as well as vendors and other overseas offices
- Detailed individual with a positive attitude & personality to work as a team player
The pay range for this position is: $75,000 - $95,000 per year
