About the role
We are looking for an employee who has medical office and EKG experience. You will be responsible for performing EKGs on pre-op patients and processing all pre-op testing results back to the ordering provider and the place of surgery. Must display excellent organization skills.
Supervision Received: Reports to Manager of Diagnostics
Supervision Exercised: None.
Typical Physical Demands: Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for operation and repair of all department equipment. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20.
Typical Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
Responsibilities: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)
- Performs EKG’s on patients having pre-operative testing.
- Ensures EKG’s are read by a qualified physician on the same day of service.
- Ensures appropriate laboratory testing is ordered per the pre-operative order form.
- Ensures appropriate radiology procedures are performed per the pre-operative order form.
- Gathers all pre-operative results, including EKG, laboratory and radiology results, and forwards to the ordering physician and surgical location within 24 hours of procedure.
- Provides documentation of individual patient care according to history and clinical information on pre-op requests.
- Explains appropriately the rationale of pre-operative procedures to the patient.
- Recognizes changes in patient status and appropriately communicates to the doctor.
- Exhibits a working knowledge of principles, practice and procedures involved in performing EKG procedures.
- Anticipates and recognizes safety hazards, legal liabilities and intervenes through appropriate channels.
- Provides and promotes quality patient care in accordance with office policies and procedures.
- Responsible for handling drug representatives that come through the Main Entrance by helping to obtain a physician’s signature and distribute samples left at Main.
- Assist diagnostic department in clerical duties as instructed by the diagnostic manager.
- Adheres to department and office policies.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers, patients and physicians.
- Exhibit’s ability to problem-solve, prioritize and evaluate patient care activities.
- Performs procedures requiring independent judgement with ingenuity and initiative.
- Evaluates EKG equipment break-downs and assesses the need for service.
- Responsible for appropriately charging procedures performed.
- Maintains area and equipment in a clean, orderly fashion.
- Attends safety classes, compliance training and other continuing education classes as offered by PE.
- Maintains yearly CPR certification.
Location & commitments
Permanent FT role based at our Greenville Arlington location, Monday-Friday, 9a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Overtime may be required to ensure patients are taken care, tasks are completed, and calls are returned in a timely manner. Weekend work is rare but can occasionally be necessary.
Candidate requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent. Educational training from a Nursing Assistant or Clinical Assistant program. Prefer previous medical-related experience. EKG experience is preferred.
