Role Overview:
The Tailings Engineer is responsible for supporting the Tailings Superintendent to ensure effective short and long-term tailings planning. This position plays a key role in the application of the Tailings Management System, ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and operational standards. The Tailings Engineer will assist in the monitoring, inspection, and development of plans for tailings deposition and water removal, working to optimize performance and ensuring safe tailings management practices. This role includes mentoring younger engineers, coordinating external and internal inspections, and contributing to the preparation of operational budgets and forecasts.
Responsibilities:
- Apply Tailings Management System to achieve good practice.
- Track and report KPIs, and develop action plans with the Tailings Superintendent to resolve issues.
- Contribute to monitoring, instrumentation planning, interpretation, QA/QC, and safe plans for tailings management.
- Prepare tailings deposition and water removal plans in collaboration with the Tailings Superintendent.
- Coordinate and participate in internal and external inspections, ensuring recommendations are implemented.
Requirements:
- Minimum of five years of experience in tailings or a relevant engineering field.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including proficiency in report writing and delivering presentations.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Expertise in TSF design, construction, operation, maintenance, and surveillance.
- Proficiency in soil and rock mechanics, stability analysis, and general geotechnical engineering principles.
- Familiarity with civil engineering principles and survey equipment, procedures, and techniques.
- Intermediate to Proficient computer skills (All Microsoft Office programs, AutoCAD Civil3D).
- Minebridge Muk3D preferred
