Senior Optical Engineer
The Optical Engineering department is involved in the design, analysis, fabrication, metrology, optical alignment, and testing of optical systems, sub-systems, and components for airborne and space-based applications. We are seeking a mid-career professional with experience in the optics or aerospace industry. The ideal candidate should be capable of working independently and collaborating across various engineering disciplines.
The Senior Optical Engineer role will include:
Responsibilities
- Develop Integration and Test Plans/Procedures: Create detailed plans and procedures for integrating and testing optical components and systems.
- Generate Error Budgets: Calculate error budgets for the fabrication of optical components and the assembly/alignment of optical systems.
- Prepare for Reviews: Attend and prepare materials for System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), and Critical Design Review (CDR).
- Analyze Optical Performance: Evaluate the optical performance of components or systems, including Wavefront Error (WFE), Modulation Transfer Function (MTF), and throughput.
What we need for the Senior Optical Engineer role
- Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in optical engineering, physics, engineering or a related field
- Optical Design and Analysis: Proficiency in optical design development and analysis using software packages such as Code V, Zemax, FRED, or equivalent.
- Optical Test Equipment Experience: Hands-on experience with optical test equipment, including interferometers (e.g., 4D, Zygo), laser trackers, theodolites, and associated software like 4SightFocus, MetroPro/Mx, and Spatial Analyzer.
- Programming Skills: Working knowledge of programming languages for data processing and analysis, such as Matlab, Python, Mathcad, and Mathematica.
- Aerospace Integration and Test Protocols: Familiarity with aerospace integration and test protocols, as well as assembly and test approaches.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with various organizations, management, professional and support staff, customers, and government representatives.
- ITC & Security Clearance Requirements -Due to contract requirements, US citizenship is required
