Job Summary
Uses advanced skills in quality assessment to perform comprehensive quality of care and service audits that develop validated care standards, data repositories and outcome measurements related to trauma patient care. Collects and analyzes bench marking data, focus studies and clinical indicators. Provides education, ensures loop closure, prepares reports, presents outcomes and participates in organizational-wide continuous improvement projects as it relates to the Trauma Performance and Patient Safety program.
Accountabilities Coordinates the Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety program based on American College of Surgeons Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured patient and South Carolina DHEC level One Trauma Center. Develops and assists others in developing action plans for process improvement and ensures follow through and loop closure on these plans.10%
Works in collaboration with the Trauma medical Director, Trauma nurse coordinator, surgical house staff, trauma registry staff and others to evaluate the effectiveness and appropriateness of care and development of policies and procedures.10%
Analyzes trauma registry data and provides registry reports on a regular basis to identify areas for improvement, education and injury prevention activities and validates data. 10%
Facilitates identification and documentation of hospital-based and American College of Surgeons approved performance improvement variances and complications. Keeps informed of the American College of Surgeon's Committee and South Carolina DHEC Level One Trauma Center requirements. 10%
Assesses the need for and facilitates the development and compliance with trauma protocols, guidelines, pathways and standard order sets.10%
Assists with the development and coordination of projects that will enhance the trauma service. Completes case reviews and analyses for contribution factors to the variance in care and/or complications.10%
Participates in trauma related research by providing data to investigators in compliance with HIPPA and Prisma Health IRB regulations.10%
Demonstrates an understanding of trauma surgery procedures and trauma patient care including standards of care as well as potential injury complications.10%
Facilitates, assists and supports the Trauma Team in issue resolution and care facilitation. 5%
Coordinates ATLS and/or ATCH in partnership with the Trauma Program Coordinator and Coordinates and participates in internal and external educational opportunities.5%
Participates in and provides reports for trauma and hospital meetings related to the Performance Improvement of the Trauma Program.5%
May attend and participate in Trauma Conference, Trauma Outcomes, Multidisciplinary Trauma Committee, Trauma Guidelines Committee, state and national meetings, and additional meetings as necessary for trauma PI. Assists in trauma research. .5%
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.
Minimum Education Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Minimum Experience 3 years- nursing related experience.
Experience in critical care, emergency, and trauma nursing preferred.
Experience in Quality Improvement and research is preferred.
Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses Licensed as a Registered Nurse in South Carolina
Other Required Experience TNCC or related certification- Preferred
