We are seeking a disciplined and detail-oriented Metallurgist to join our Hot Rolling and Cold Rolling divisions at a state-of-the-art aluminum flat-rolled product facility. As a metallurgical subject matter expert, you will collaborate with process and product engineers to optimize product performance and meet customer requirements. This role involves setting up operational parameters for hot rolling or cold rolling lines, contributing to product trials, and maintaining product metallurgy standards.
Responsibilities:
- Review and approve Reverse Mill and Hot Finishing Mill or Cold Mill capabilities to meet metallurgical and product specifications for auto, beverage packaging, and general industry customers.
- Collaborate with Process Metallurgists to set rolling line parameters to achieve quality, safety, volume, and cost objectives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Provide technical leadership in coil-to-coil rolling processes during product trials, working with engineers and supervisors to ensure successful outcomes.
- Analyze rolled products to identify surface and metallurgical criteria, supporting root cause analysis for customer returns through data-driven problem-solving methods.
- Develop and implement best rolling practices to improve production efficiency, monitor scrap rates, reduce rework, and ensure on-time delivery.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for Reverse Mill and Hot Finishing Mill or Cold Rolling Metallurgy, leading product development and qualification efforts across the mill.
- Use process data and problem-solving techniques to identify root causes of production issues and lead the implementation of effective solutions.
- Develop corrective action plans, execute them, and monitor outcomes to assess the effectiveness of solutions.
- Support customer visits, mill tours, and technical exchanges, providing expertise in hot or cold rolling processes.
- Mentor and train young technical team members on rolling practices and support departmental training and audits.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in hot rolling or cold rolling aluminum sheet/plate production.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of quality systems and standards such as ISO, IATF, and other applicable regulations.
- Direct experience with aluminum reverse mill, hot finishing mill, or cold mill applications.
