JOB SUMMARY: The EHS Specialist will assist in establishing, implementing, and maintaining sound EHS focused goals at the personal and facility level that align with corporate goals. These goals will reflect a total commitment to developing a strong safety culture, achieving a world-class safety process and the environmentally responsible operation of the Savannah facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Assist in the development, revision, and implementation of facility occupational safety & health programs, process safety programs, environmental programs, and associated procedures.
• Conduct audits of occupational safety & health programs, process safety programs, and environmental programs and assist in the development of sustainable solutions.
• Perform weekly, monthly, quarterly EHS inspections and provide feedback on findings and corrective actions.
• Lead EHS observation program with emphasis on coaching hazard recognition and avoiding at-risk behaviors.
• Assign and deliver initial and periodic EHS compliance training.
• Maintain training documentation and other records as required by corporate and federal/state standards.
• High level of participation (planning and leading when requested) with monthly employee safety meetings and employee safety committee meetings.
• Assist in recordable injury, first-aid, and near-miss investigations and in the development and implementation of improvement action plans.
• Support operations during emergency response activities.
• Oversee the routing of the document control system.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITES:
• Work with production, maintenance, and the laboratory to review and revise standard operating procedures (SOP’s), work instructions (WI’s), and job hazards analysis (JHA).
• Assist with implementing and managing ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
• Continually improve and reinforce the company’s culture on safety and environmental stewardship and recognize employee accomplishments and contributions.
• Develop and sustain a positive relationship with all plant employees.
• Empower employees to prevent, stop and correct unsafe working conditions and acts.
• Perform additional duties and functions related to sustaining the Environmental, Health and Safety programs as directed by the EHS manager.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
• Associate’s degree (required) or Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in one or more of the following disciplines: Engineering, Environmental or Occupational Health Sciences, Industrial Safety or related technical field.
• Minimum of 2 years experience leading EHS efforts in an industrial manufacturing setting.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of the following EPA laws and regulatory standards: Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, National Pollutants Discharge Elimination Systems, Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act, and Georgia Radioactive Material Program.
• Knowledge of following OSHA laws and standards: General Industry, Process Safety Management, and Construction Standard.
• Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) laws and regulations.
• Strong personal computers skills, including Microsoft Office Excel, Power Point, Word, and Outlook
• Familiarity with a document control system and the routing process.
• Familiarity with implementing or managing ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
• Strong communication skills, including written, oral, listening and presentation/facilitation to both small and large groups.
• Ability to motivate employees, build relationships, and drive initiatives throughout the facility.
• Ability to identify unsafe acts / behaviors and coach employees at all levels.
• Good problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions in line with strategic EHS and business goals.
• Ability to lead personnel of varying backgrounds, skillsets, and abilities to handle high stress situations with a degree of calmness and professionalism.
• Ability to be resourceful with a strong service orientation and positive attitude.
• Ability to fully commit to the EHS mission and vision.
• Ability to work outdoors, climb stairs and lift up to 50 pounds.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
• OSHA Certification, CSP, ASP, GSP preferred.
