BASIC OVERVIEW
An Operations Manager (Field Supervisor) is an experienced landscape professional directing the day-to-day activities of Team Leaders in the Landscape Management Division.
He or she should have knowledge and experience in all areas of landscape maintenance practices including mowing, irrigation, low-voltage lighting, pruning, weeding, and turf applications.
As an Operations Manager, he or she would ensure that team resources are used efficiently, personnel are adequately developed, and client needs and expectations are being met. The Operations Manager is responsible for training and personnel development on each team and filling in for absent team leaders as required. The Operations Manager will review new Landscape Management contracts and do job audits annually.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Plans, schedules, and supervises work daily for the maintenance teams including mowing, horticulture, and spray tech. Assists crews as necessary to meet production schedules.
2. Utilizes Aspire software to manage daily job tasks such as, but not limited to: crew scheduling, completing tasks, monitoring and approving time, allocating materials, approving subcontractor tickets.
3. Identifies areas for growth, expansion and increased business opportunities.
4. Meets production goals and budgets.
5. Works with Production Manager on annual budgets for personnel, equipment and fleet vehicles.
6. Creates annual routes for mowing teams and horticulture teams as well as spray technician.
7. Monitors quality of work by inspecting all job sites at least four times annually.
8. Coaches team leaders on improvement and skill development; holds one-on-one training sessions monthly with respective team leaders.
9. Interacts with clients as required.
10. By means of observation and client contact, recommends enhancement opportunities to the sales team.
11. Reviews daily time data and other management reports for maintenance team leaders and takes actions or makes recommendations to management to correct variances outside expected results.
12. Trains team members in proper horticultural, construction and equipment operation techniques. Monitors crew performance/goal setting, conducts periodic crew performance reviews and documents all personnel actions. Assists management in hiring and terminating decisions.
13. Assists management and sales in job cost estimating.
14. Enforces safe work behavior and maintains safe work sites.
15. Assist with winter snow removal operations.
16. Manages enhancement projects by means of coordinating subcontractors, lining up materials/equipment, ensures punch list items are completed as needed.
17. Manages and coordinates fleet and equipment needs/maintenance/repairs.
18. Assist with executing warranty claims and problems.
19. Supports the company's mission, goals, and core values.
20. Assist with other duties for the good of team members and the Company.
21. Holds commercial pesticide applicator business license for company.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
1. This position requires a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in a green industry related field or a five years of documented hands-on experience in the maintenance industry, plus two years’ experience in a supervisory role
2. A working knowledge of standard horticultural practices and cultural requirements is required along with an advanced understanding of landscape construction concepts.
3. Candidate must be proficient in the use of computers and have a working knowledge of
Microsoft Office Products including Word and Excel.
4. Strong oral and written communication skills, supervisory skills, and a mechanical aptitude are a must.
5. Candidate must have excellent organizational skills and a keen attention to detail.
CERTIFICATIONS
This position requires that the individual to have the following certifications:
1. First/Aid and CPR
2. Valid VA Driver’s License
3. Virginia Certified Horticulturist
4. Commercial Pesticide Applicator
WORKING CONDITIONS
The majority of the time (greater than 80%) will be spent in an outdoor environment, with limited ability to control noise, airborne contaminants and temperature. Be able to regularly lift 80 pounds.
The employee is expected to work the assigned hours at Southern Landscape Group from Monday through Friday and Saturdays as needed. The work hours required of this position may be long when extended schedules are necessary. This position has a normally expected work week of 40-50+ hours, but the person in this position is expected to work those hours needed to successfully satisfy the responsibilities and duties of the position.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The employee will work closely with members of the team, team leaders, group leaders, and clients.
