About the position:
This position requires a broad background in environmental compliance and sustainability. As the Environmental Engineer, your job is critical to ensure site environmental compliance, as well as global alignment in the planning and implementation of critical EH&S initiatives. You will be involved in daily operations, work to improve processes to align with corporate environmental initiatives, and work cross-functionally to ensure compliance requirements are met.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee environmental compliance data collection (air, wastewater, hazardous materials) to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
- Oversee the collection, measurement, and analysis of environmental data to evaluate the organization’s environmental performance and the effectiveness of the corporate environmental management system
- Monitor new and/or changes to applicable federal, state, and local environmental rules, regulations, laws, and policies
- Work cross-functionally with internal and external interested parties to identify and implement systems to enable the organization’s global sustainability initiatives and environmental objectives
- Draft and manage communications to key stakeholders on the organization’s environmental performance and compliance status
- Manage company compliance status through online Dashboard system (including ongoing improvement of system)
- Interact with regulatory agencies and consultants by actively participating in audits and work with cross-functional teams to address findings
- Drive the management of EH&S systems, including the development and implementation of program documentation and training materials
- Serve as a member of the emergency response team by supporting emergency response and investigation efforts in the event of a chemical spill/release, injury, and/or illness
- Assist in the preparation of accident, incident, and near-miss reports, and work with teammates to determine root causes and implement corrective actions
- Lead risk management practices to enable safe chemical usage, process development, and equipment operation
- Provide safety training on various health and safety subjects such as, Lockout/Tagout, Hazard Communication, Chemical Hygiene, and Personal Protective Equipment
- Collaborate to support health and safety programs by completing industrial hygiene studies, site safety inspections, and process/equipment reviews
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental, occupational health, safety, science, or engineering-related field
- 3-5 years of proven EHS experience, preferably in a chemical or electronics-related field
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental laws and agencies including EPA, MADEP & OSHA
- Hands-on experience working with regulatory agencies regarding compliance issues
- Demonstrated ability to conduct research about changes in environmental regulations and identify relevant data/information required by different regulatory authorities
- Hands-on experience completing Air, Source Registration, Tier II, and TURA reporting
- Training and experience with chemical emergency response, HAZMAT, RCRA, and first-aid
Preferences:
- Familiarity with 527 CMR 1 Hazardous Materials Processing, Flammable Storage Permitting, and TSCA Premanufacture Notice (PMN) application process
- Familiarity with all elements of ISO standards, specifically for ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 9001
- Familiarity with chemical hazards, process safety management (PSM), and risk assessment techniques (HAZOP)
