UPS Systems Engineer– Hybrid
SYSTEMTEC is seeking a contract UPS Systems Engineer professional to join our team. This is a Lead role and has dual responsibilities. You'll lead and manage a critical replacement/upgrade of several thousand UPS devices throughout the system nationwide. Once complete you'll oversee the maintenance of this critical equipment but then move to other Sr level Systems Engineering support. To describe the scope of this initial project, detail is provided below. The primary scope of this position includes overseeing installation, configuration, management, and support of Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) devices for the client.
Required Qualifications of the UPS Systems Engineer:
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. We are unable to provide sponsorship or work with Third-Party agencies.
- For the critical project you'll manage you'll need five years of experience in firmware and your resume should reflect experience with UPS devices as part of your responsibilities.
- For Senior level UPS Systems Engineer you'll need strong proven experience to include writing scripts from scratch (at least mid-level experience in this is needed).
Responsibilities of the UPS Systems Engineer:
- You will develop and document standard NMC configuration to be deployed to ~750 units nationwide.
- Review available firmware versions and recommend target versions for deployment.
- Develop and document automated processes for remotely deploying standard configuration and configuration updates.
- Develop and document processes/procedures for periodic NMC/UPS firmware updates to maintain optimal performance and/or remediate security vulnerabilities.
- Assist in configuring units for SNMP monitoring via centralized monitoring platform.
- Review cybersecurity vulnerability scans and remediate findings on NMCs.
- Develop standard operating procedures for District SMs and for the NOC to address periodic maintenance requirements.
- Work directly with Schneider/APC TAC to troubleshoot, identify common issues, and remediate. Document remediation steps.
- Adhere to best practices and safe installation procedures when working with UPS units, and understand basic electrical principles, such as outlet types, high vs. low voltage, and electrical load.
- Work directly with System Managers in remote locations to install, configure, and troubleshoot new units; resolve issues with existing units; and document common solutions.
- Propose solutions as appropriate to improve or streamline the installation and/or management of the UPS units.
- Participate in initial implementation of general data center requirements, addition of new hardware and retirement of equipment.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Experience in scripting languages such as Ansible or Python.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure design in datacenter and campus environments.
- Experience with Local Area Network and data center networks.
- In-depth knowledge of general overall data center technologies.
- Experience diagramming network designs, layouts, etc. using tools such as Visio.
