Role Summary
The Principal HW Safety Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that our products meet the stringent functional safety requirements set forth by automotive industry standards. This individual will play a crucial role in the development, verification, and validation of our hardware platform to ensure its compliance with safety standards and regulations.
Role Responsibilities
Functional Safety
- Lead the functional safety activities throughout the hardware platform development lifecycle, including concept, design, implementation, testing, and production release.
- Develop and maintain the safety requirements specification, ensuring alignment with ISO 26262 and other relevant safety standards.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, software engineers, system architects, and project managers, to integrate functional safety into the development process.
- Perform various analysis and risk assessment methodologies to identify potential safety hazards and define safety goals and requirements.
- Define and implement safety mechanisms and strategies to mitigate identified risks and ensure the safe operation of products
- Establish and maintain safety metrics and perform safety analyses to assess the effectiveness of safety measures and identify areas for improvement.
- Participate in safety audits, assessments, and reviews to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
- Qualify and review the implementation of major E/E components for use in safety critical applications across the entire architecture.
Operational Management
- Manage and track implementation of functional safety activities.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the functional safety processes, tools, and documentation within the hardware platform development department.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements, trends, and developments in functional safety standards, technologies, and methodologies relevant to the automotive industry.
Years of Experience
- 12+ years’ experience in functional safety engineering within the automotive industry, technology industry, or related field.
Required Education
- Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Desired Education
- Master's/PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.

- Proven experience in leading functional safety activities across the entire development lifecycle of automotive electronic systems.
- Proven track record in end-to-end safety having taken it from proof of concept to successful production.
- Strong knowledge and experience in FMEDA, DFMEA, FMEA and fault campaign.
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., C, C++, Python) and experience with embedded software development.
- Experience in Safety management, traceability, analysis and tracking tools.
