Job Description:
Our headquarters in Huntsville, AL (the high tech sector of aerospace and defense) is growing! Aerojet has two Advanced Manufacturing Facilities for inert components in Huntsville, AL and we are expanding to accommodate an increase in rocket motor production. Aerojet uses advanced composite manufacturing techniques to include pre-preg tape wrap, wet tape wrap, compression molding, injection molding, and hand layup composite manufacturing techniques to manufacture components and structures for solid rocket motors and aerospace structures.
This position will support all programs in composite manufacturing. A strong knowledge of tape wrap composite techniques is required. Additional knowledge of composite molding techniques is required. This position requires professional judgement and use and/or application of basic principles, theories, and concepts of manufacturing composite structures including an understanding of the various manufacturing techniques involved with composites. The selected individual will understand/review/update Standard Operating Procedures related to composite structure manufacturing. The selected individual will participate in all work stops, production bottleneck reviews, and failure investigations pertaining to composite manufacturing. The individual will be self-motivated and will accurately report problems, solutions, and results in concise written and oral communications.
This position will be a dynamic position – moving from various programs to assess production, production bottlenecks, failures, non-conformances, and technology to increase yield and production throughput.
Essential Functions:
- Evaluate and implement tractable solutions to technical problems involving tape wrapped composite pressure vessels
- Interprets engineering drawings and specifications, standard operating procedures, quality requirements (both customer and company), and applicable safety requirements for handling composite material
- Prepares comprehensive analyses, procedures, reports, and presentations for customer reviews (both internal and external)
- Knowledge of composite manufacturing techniques
- Travel: 25% Some travel may be required to our energetics manufacturing site in Camden, AR depending upon issues found during manufacturing and required site visits to help resolve work stoppage or failure investigations
- Ability to obtain a US security clearance
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 12 years of prior composite processing experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 10 years of prior composite processing experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior composite processing experience.
- 5 years tape wrap composite experience
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Master Degree or PhD preferred
- Degree in material science, composites, or related science and technical experience in the composite manufacturing environment
- Experience with composite molding techniques, statistical analysis, data acquisition is a plus
- Composite theory, compositions, and modeling is a plus
