Senior Manufacturing Engineer - North Kingstown, RI (Full Time / Direct Hire)
Surface Mount Technology (SMT) assembly and manufacturing processes.
We are seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Engineer to join our team and play a crucial role in optimizing and maintaining our Surface Mount Technology (SMT) assembly and manufacturing processes. You will be responsible for ensuring efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness throughout the production line.
Responsibilities:
Process Improvement and Optimization:
- Analyze and evaluate SMT assembly processes to identify areas for improvement.
- Implement process changes to enhance efficiency, yield, and first-pass quality.
- Develop and maintain detailed process documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for SMT assembly.
- Conduct root cause analysis to identify and address production defects and quality issues.
Equipment Management:
- Program and operate SMT equipment, including screen printers, pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, and Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) systems.
- Collaborate with maintenance personnel to ensure optimal performance and preventative maintenance of SMT equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions to minimize downtime.
Quality Control and Assurance:
- Develop and implement quality control procedures for SMT assembly, adhering to IPC standards (e.g., IPC-A-610).
- Analyze and interpret AOI and X-ray inspection data to identify and address potential quality issues.
- Work with suppliers to ensure the quality and consistency of incoming SMT components.
Production Support:
- Provide technical support to production personnel on SMT assembly processes and equipment operation.
- Analyze production data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement in throughput and yield.
- Assist with the development and implementation of new SMT assembly processes for product launches.
Project Management:
- Manage and lead SMT-related engineering projects, ensuring timely completion and adherence to budget constraints.
- Work effectively with cross-functional teams, including design engineering, production, and quality control.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (preferred).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in SMT assembly and manufacturing processes.
- Strong understanding of IPC standards and quality control principles.
- Proficiency in operating and programming SMT equipment (screen printers, pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, AOI systems).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Experience with data analysis and process improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma) a plus.
