Job Summary:The Performance Improvement Coordinator is an integral member of the Trauma program. Under the direction of the Trauma Program Manager (TPM), the Performance Improvement Coordinator identifies performance issues, assures timely evaluation, assists with developing action plans and implementing those plans, and is responsible for evaluating effectiveness.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements: PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the continuous improvement performance of the trauma program.
- Identifies opportunities to improve the care of the trauma patient and documents issues into the trauma registry, assists in developing the performance improvement plan, evaluates and validates performance issues/concerns, and maintains the documentation of these PI issues and plans in an organized, traceable format.
- Assists the trauma program manager in coordinating trauma performance improvement (PI) committees.
- Incorporates the American College of Surgeons, National Trauma Data Standards, and Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement (TOPIC) objectives into the PI program and actively participates in the ongoing preparation for the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Trauma Re-Verification site visit.
- Collaborates with various disciplines and departments to develop action plans of identified issues.
- Develops quality filters, audits, and case reviews and develops focused review presentation for PI filters that exceed established thresholds.
- Identifies trends and sentinel events.
- Participates in trauma registry data collection and validation.
- Assists in implementing the action plan and monitoring its effectiveness through the PI process and insures completion of action plan items and creates remediation plans to ensure loop closure on identified opportunities of care.
- Participates in professional development/educational activities to ensure advancement of skills and knowledge of trauma care and data information systems.
- As an SSM Health nurse, I will demonstrate the professional nursing standards defined in the professional practice model.
- Uses the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide his/her response to the current and evolving health and nursing needs of our patients and our patient populations
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing or education equivalency for licensing
EXPERIENCE
- Three years' registered nurse experience in trauma critical care or emergency nursing
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
- Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
- Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
- Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
- Rare climbing.
