We are looking for a Lead Safety Engineer to join our growing team! Our projects include designing, building, and deploying clean-sheet automation and manufacturing solutions for cutting-edge technologies of the future such as electric aircraft, commercial spacecraft, batteries, and clean energy. The projects we take on are challenging, rewarding and often involve solving problems in ways that have never been done before. Ensuring employee and customer safety throughout our projects is our top priority.
The Lead Safety Engineer will have both internal and external facing functions, including involvement with designs from the proposal phase through delivery. This includes supporting estimating with budgets for safety systems; safety design, layout, and documentation; testing of safety devices; and delivery of systems to our customers. Additional responsibilities include driving internal safety policy and culture through writing and implementing safety policies, and working to constantly improve company safety. Our intention is to design in safety from the beginning of a project, not add it in at the end.
This position is full-time in-person, in-the-office.
Requirements:

- Minimum 2-year professional experience in industrial safety
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering
- Functional knowledge in electrical and controls with respect to industrial safety
- Strong communication skills. The Lead Safety Engineer will need to effectively interface with and present safety solutions to customers.
- Self-directed and able to work independently in an environment that emphasizes individual ownership and responsibility, and where requirements will not always be well-defined
- Due to the nature of our ITAR-restricted projects, applicants must be US Citizens or lawful permanent residents per 8 U.S.C. 1324b (a) (3).
Bonus points:
- Functional Safety Engineer (TUV Rheinland) certificate in Machinery
- Expertise in applicable safety standards, such as:
- ANSI B11
- ANSI/RIA 15.06
- RIA TR R15.306-2016
- ISO 13849
- ISO 12100
- Hands-on mechanical experience such as auto repair, construction, bicycle repair, welding, and machining
- Senior capstone or professional experience designing and building automated systems: robotics, PLC programming, microcontrollers, etc.
Responsibilities:
As project contributor:
- Identify and comprehend applicable safety standards
- Reliably identify all potential safety risks and help project team find adequate, reliable, and cost-effective solutions to reduce safety risks over the course of the entire project life cycle
- Write and maintain risk assessments
- Design, install, and test safety devices such as interlocks, light curtains, and laser scanners that comply with safety standards
- Use SRP/CS MMTF numbers to properly determine Performance Level of the designed product
- Write site installation plans that meet all safety standards, codes, customer requirements, and regulations for the installation site
As Lead Safety Engineer:
- Take ownership of safety policies at Perellion
- Stay up to date on laws, standards, and OSHA requirements that affect our business and ensure we are in compliance
- Conduct quarterly company safety meetings to review policies and safety incidents to improve overall safety at Perellion
- Maintain the Perellion Safety Manual
