Summary: Responsible for the practice of nursing by ensuring consistency in the standard of practice across the clinical setting. Responsible for managing 24-hour emergency department and coordination of trauma care patients of all ages throughout the hospital. Supports and facilitates an interdisciplinary team approach to the delivery of care. Provides guidance and support in creating a nursing environment in which collation is valued and excellence in clinical care, education, financial stability and retention of staff is promoted and achieved. Supervises and guides the functions of the emergency department at Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center (SPRHC).
Nurse Manager Essential Job Functions:
• Promotes the mission, vision and values of SPRHC.
• Works closely with the Director of MedSurg/ECU/Emergency department.
• Utilizing Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Regulations and Guidelines (CMS), establishes and maintains an active quality improvement plan and participants in infection control programs including attending regularly scheduled meetings.
• Supervise, direct and evaluate assigned staff members through prescribed procedures.
• Assures that all nursing services are provided in compliance with all applicable standards and requirements of federal, state and local rules and regulations.
• Within assigned work team, assumes responsibility for proactively identifying and resolving customer problems and requests for assistance.
• Organizes workflow and prepares schedules, reviews and approves payroll including time sheets and leave time.
• Instructs and directs staff members regarding proper procedures and protocols of units, review all work products for compliance with standards, policies and procedures.
• Schedules and coordinates all training, in-service and education for personnel.
• Complete necessary processes for selection of new personnel.
• Supports team objectives focusing on team results, handling conflict in a positive manner, sharing information and resources and listening effectively to team members while assuming responsibility for personal contributions.
• Establishes and maintains positive relationships with all customers/patients by ensuring daily rounding is completed to build relationships.
• Ensure the consideration of the role of cultural, social and behavioral factors in the accessibility, availability, acceptability and delivery of unit information and services.
• Assess ever-changing processes and healthcare standard regulations to ensure effective and appropriate care standards are up to date through education opportunities.
• Ensure all required licensing, certification and/or education requirements for assigned staff members are completed and up to date.
• Exhibits positive communication methods; conducts regular staff meetings to ensure dissemination of relevant work-related information is communicated.
• Work one-on-one with nursing staff as needed to enhance the delivery of patient care.
• Evaluate department needs and equipment demands for proper and safe usage of equipment; call for service/initiate service process for repair or replacement.
• Perform other functions as required to fulfill the expectations of the Manager role.
Trauma Nurse Coordinator Essential Job Functions:
· This position requires knowledge and skill of: professional nursing theory and practice, trauma care and trauma systems, principles of teaching and learning, research and quality assurance. Effective interpersonal relationships are essential to all activities. Knowledge, understanding, acceptance, and support of the philosophy objectives and policies of the Emergency Department, Ambulance Service, trauma care, and the facility are essential. Position must demonstrate excellence in practice through full role functions: practitioner, educator, consultant, and researcher.
· Functions as an expert practitioner who provides for the clinical needs of trauma, ER and ambulance patients, both directly and indirectly.
· Acts as a consultant providing expertise in trauma, ER and ambulance care to staff, pre-hospital providers, and other health care professionals.
· Responsible for the development of standards of care in trauma, ER and ambulance patients in collaboration with appropriate disciplines.
· Participates in the development, implementation, and ongoing assessment of trauma, ER and ambulance protocols.
· Collaborates with other departments as needed in providing continuity of care to trauma, ER and ambulance patients and families from admission through discharge or transfer.
· Collaborates with ED leadership for the development, implementation, and assessment of quality assurance programs related to trauma, emergency room and ambulance care.
· Responsible for maintenance of the trauma registry.
· Responsible for data collection and monitoring compliance.
· Participates in data analysis and distributes reports to appropriate health team members.
· Responsible for the development and monitoring of trauma clinical indicators and reports the findings to appropriate health team members.
· Develops the plan for trauma, ambulance and emergency room related in-services and continuing educational activities working in collaboration with the appropriate staff members.
· Collaborates with ED leadership with formulating the trauma center, ambulance and emergency room goals and practices.
· Communicates and educates trauma center, ambulance and emergency room policies and procedures and goals to staff.
· Assists the Medical Director in the investigation and resolution of problems and concerns in the area of trauma, ambulance and emergency room care.
· Collaborates with ED leadership for Emergency Service (trauma, ER and ambulance) department meetings. Serves on hospital and/or nursing committees as appointed or requested, task force activities, and facility-sponsored and/or community events.
Requirements:
Minimum Required Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in nursing is required or should be obtained within two years of hire into the role. Minimum of two years' work experience in direct nursing care is required. Six years of supervisory experience is preferred. Emergency department nursing experience preferred.
Pre-Employment Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
• Advanced clinical expertise in the practice of Medical/Surgical and Extended Care nursing.
• Ability to operate general office equipment including computer software applications (e-mail, surveillance equipment/cameras).
• Knowledge of personnel management including conflict management skills, behavior modification methodology and documentation skills regarding performance management.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to maintain and oversee multiple clinical interactions ensuring timeliness in response to needs of employees and patients.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of project management, development and implementation of projects/programs.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with the public, other agencies, employees and administration.

Necessary Special Requirements: Must obtain annual flu vaccination and any job-specific immunizations. Required to submit to QFT TB blood test.
Licenses or Certificates: Current Colorado driver's license. Valid state license as an RN. Current Basic Life Support/CPR certification and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC). Must attain and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS) within three months of assignment to the position.
Unusual Demands: Work is subject to recurring and inflexible deadlines and frequent interruptions.
