Job Summary:
This role will be responsible for working on a diverse range of construction projects, including transmission, distribution, and substation electrical construction. The individual will collect and analyze data to estimate labor, equipment, materials, and subcontract costs for EPC or GC estimates. The main objective of this position is to track, bid on, and secure profitable projects for the company while maintaining a favorable ratio of awarded contracts.
Job Duties:
- Determine and quantify cost factors, including production time, materials, and labor expenses.
- Visit jobsites to gather details on required materials, labor needs, and other relevant factors.
- Review blueprints and technical documents to prepare accurate estimates.
- Work closely with engineers, project managers, procurement teams, and subcontractors to create constructability plans and cost estimates.
- Consult with industry experts and management to discuss estimates and address any issues.
- Utilize computer software, primarily Excel and Bluebeam, to calculate and generate estimates.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in the utilities or construction industry is highly preferred.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering, or Construction Management, along with five years of experience in medium and high voltage electrical substation and transmission construction, or a combination of education and experience that shows the ability to perform the required tasks.
- Strong skills in reading, interpreting, and analyzing electrical construction drawings and specifications.
- Comprehensive knowledge of industry standards, procedures, and current market trends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word.
Preferred Skills:
- Previous medium and high voltage electrical construction experience
- Knowledge, experience and ability to estimate EPC (Engineer, Procure, Construct) type projects.
- Knowledge, experience, and ability to estimate related types of work such as electrical and civil substation construction and distribution and transmission line construction, etc.
