The Role:
Our site in Decatur, Texas is seeking an R&D Battery Scientist to join our team. Entegris’ POCO Materials is a world-leading supplier of graphite and silicon carbide products and solutions. We have accomplished this by having a world class, diverse, and creative R&D Technical Development team that includes scientists from different disciplines who collaborate to develop leading edge technologies. To continue to grow as the industry grows, we are looking for an experienced and innovative Battery Scientist to join our team.
In this role you will report to the manager of Research and Development and lead advanced battery research activities, defining needs, planning, and executing R&D activities, as well as driving scale up, characterization, and testing of materials related to battery production.

What You’ll Do:
- Synthesize novel battery anode materials and morphologies
- Optimize current materials and help facilitate scaleup from lab-size to production scale
- Perform lab-scale battery testing and optimize battery testing procedures
- Perform materials characterization and analysis
- Contribute to determining anode product strategies and aid in identifying chemical and synthesis design spaces that address current and future customer needs
- Learn, establish, and leverage chemical design and synthesis rules to create anodes with optimal composition, interfacial properties, morphology, and electrochemical characteristics
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, including establishing timelines, allocating resources, and overseeing project milestones. Provide regular updates to internal and external stakeholders on project progress.
- Collaborate with university and/or external research efforts.
- Work with internal and external customers to solve complex challenges.
- Other projects as assigned.
What We Seek:
- Ph.D. in a relevant technical field, i.e., chemistry, physics, materials science, etc. with at least 2 years of hands-on battery development experience.
- In-depth knowledge of Li-ion battery cell materials, operation, performance, and failure modes.
- Knowledge and experience in evaluating material properties, including anode, electrolytes, slurry processing, cell assembly and/or cycle testing of batteries.
- Hands-on experience in material characterization including microscopy, spectroscopy, rheology, calorimetry, and/or mechanical testing.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Ability to flourish as part of a multi-disciplinary team of researchers.
- Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Highly innovative - able to connect abstract information into actionable plans.
- Invent and implement practical solutions to complex problems.
- Humility and a love of learning and solving problems.
- Candidate must have the capacity to comply with the federally mandated requirements of U.S. export control law.
