Are you a hands-on A&P Mechanic eager to learn and develop your skills in the space industry? If you’ve got great attention to detail and solid people skills, we’d like to speak with you!
This is a full-time contract position at Virgin Galactic’s Gateway to Space facility located at New Mexico Spaceport America complex, Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.
Contract 9 to 12 months.
Your Responsibilities
- A&P work, but on a spacecraft!
- Work on all aspects of the vehicles, including propulsion systems (turbine & rocket), avionics equipment & instruments, fuel systems, Environmental Control Systems (ECS), life support systems, mechanical systems and hydraulic systems.
- Perform machine tool and/or composite repair work.
- Inspects aircraft, parts, sub-assemblies, completed assemblies and composites.
- Develop and improve maintenance manuals for vehicle systems and structures.

Must Have
- A valid FAA approved Airframe and Powerplant license (A&P License).
- 3 Years A&P experience (5+ would be even better)
- Firm grasp of procedures applicable to the various phases of maintenance.
- Willing to travel and be on-call.
- Qualified to obtain Air Operations Area (AOA) access.
Nice to Have
- Some college, Technical College, or a recognized apprenticeship program
- Certifications or specialized training with application to aerospace/aviation technologies.
- Experience on narrow body and/or business jet aircraft.
- Composite Aircraft Experience (Commercial or Military)
- Familiarity with life support systems (crew and passenger).
- Rocket Systems and propellants background would be ideal!
Physical and/or Additional Requirements
- Travel 25% or more of the time. (Passport & Drivers License required)
- Stand for extended periods – 8 hours min.
- Stoop, bend, crawl, and being able to maneuver in REALLY tight spaces- 3+ hours min.
- Physically able to handle items weighing up to 40lbs (unassisted).
Export Requirements
To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. Person (either a U.S. citizen, a lawful permanent resident or a protected individual as defined 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) or be able to obtain the required authorization from either the U.S. Department of State or the U.S. Department of Commerce. The applicant must also not be included in the list of Specifically Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons maintained by the Office of Foreign Assets Control. See list here.
The hourly rate (USD) range for this contract position is $45.00 - $55.00. The hourly rate actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity.
