Lead Systems Engineer
An industry-leading aerospace and defense company is seeking a highly skilled Lead Systems Engineer to join their engineering team. In this pivotal role, you'll contribute to the ongoing development of advanced electric propulsion and power generation systems.
Role Overview:
As the Lead Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for integrating multiple components to create sophisticated electric power generation and propulsion systems. This includes specifying software, electrical, and mechanical interfaces, and designing, implementing, and testing application-specific software to meet rigorous quality and regulatory standards. The position involves occasional travel to customer sites for technical and sales support.
In addition, you will work with multidisciplinary teams to fine-tune, calibrate, and characterize motor/generator controllers, ensuring optimal performance when used with our cutting-edge electric machines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Derive and decompose system requirements into relevant subsystems based on customer specifications, covering interface, mechanical, electrical, software, power, efficiency, thermal, and EMC aspects.
- Collaborate with a cross-functional team to lead the design and development of electric machines from concept through production.
- Lead system design decisions, including trade studies, performance analysis, risk assessment, and test and evaluation strategies.
- Develop detailed specifications, architecture, design documentation, and test plans/procedures.
- Conduct and support customer reviews, acting as a subject-matter expert for both internal teams and customers.
- Provide critical data and insights to Product Management and other internal teams regarding market needs, product performance, and competitor analysis.
- Support business development and proposal activities, identifying and advocating for R&D initiatives.
- Estimate resources and timelines for the design and development of hardware and software, ensuring alignment with program schedules.
- Suggest and implement improvements to operational policies and procedures related to Systems Engineering.
Qualifications:
- B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline with 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong understanding of electronic systems and electric machine design, applications, and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in motor/generator controller design and PCB layout.
- Experience in creating comprehensive requirements documentation.
- Extensive experience with embedded control systems and control system components.
- Demonstrated knowledge of engineering best practices and standards.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.
- Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS CAD design tools and familiarity with Matlab/Simulink.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Systems Engineering tools such as DOORS, DNG, Cameo, Jira, and Confluence.
- Technical leadership experience and the ability to architect, design, and maintain C/C++ code.
- Knowledge of thermal design considerations and electronics packaging.
- Patents and publications in relevant fields.
- Industry experience in Aerospace or Defense.
