Role Description
This full-time opportunity is recruited and staffed by SevenGen, the trusted EHS advisor to NXP. If hired, you will support the EHS department at NXP Semiconductors in Austin, Texas. The Safety Specialist will spend much of their time working in the field performing various tasks and inspections to ensure individuals are performing their work in a safe manner and that life safety systems/controls are functioning properly. The Safety Specialist must be physically fit to walk around the site and be on their feet the majority of the day, not afraid of heights or being on open grate platforms, ability to climb a ladder in excess of 13 feet high, to some extent not claustrophobic, and the ability to wear cleanroom gown and other personal protective equipment depending on the task being performed. The duties listed below are examples of typical tasks for which our Safety Specialist is accountable. Not all duties are included, nor is it expected that all positions will be assigned.
A DAY IN YOUR LIFE AS A SAFETY SPECIALIST:
- Collect meaningful observations of work practices, environments, and conditions that may contribute to potential unsafe work environments and/or conditions.
- Determine efficacy of engineering control methods and make recommendations regarding location, operations, and maintenance of life safety equipment and job-oriented processes.
- Write confined space permits, burn permits, excavation permits, and other site-specific permits that are dependent on the tasks being performed by on-site personnel and outside vendors.
- Prepare well-written job reports as well as applicable correspondence for team members.
- Manage safety compliance through successful inspection/training programs for powered industrial trucks, fall protection, cranes & hoists, burn permit, and other programs.
- Conduct task-specific JSAs/JHAs and general inspections then issue appropriate documentation, including corrective actions.
- Perform monthly inspections of fire sprinkler systems to ensure valves are in proper position and that normal air/water supply pressure is present
- Facilitate any needed repairs or scheduled inspections/maintenance activities with outside vendors to ensure life safety systems are being properly maintained.
- Manage emergency response equipment, including ordering, stocking, maintaining supplies and handheld monitors.
- Maintain a commitment to the customer and our partnership, possess a technical competency, and have a friendly and professional approach to your work.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- Associate degree in a Health, Safety, Environmental, or Engineering field, or equivalent; BS is preferred.
- 3+ years of relevant safety experience (required), including practical application of OSHA 1910 standards and regulations
- 2 years of experience with Microsoft Office Suite
