Assay Development Scientist
Who we are
We are a startup in stealth mode, founded by Berkeley faculty and graduates, dedicated to revolutionizing drug development for the heart. Our organ chip micro-heart tissue technologies provide new understanding on the effects of drugs on the heart and stands to decrease development risks in modern drug pipelines.
Why join us
Cardiovascular disease remains one of the great challenges to modern medicine, and finding new drugs has been traditionally difficult due to the lack of high throughput translational models. Be an integral part of an exciting project that could actually make a difference in the world.

A Scientist / Associate Scientist position is immediately available, to implement cardiac tissue chips technology to evaluate how compounds modulate heart muscle dynamics. We seek a creative, highly motivated individual with a background in bioengineering, chemical engineering, or related fields to join us. An ideal candidate would have a direct experience with microfabrication, stem cell culture, and/or cardiomyocyte testing. This scientist will act as a technical and scientific lead to design, execute, and analyze experiments relating to in-chip functional electrophysiology and tissue mechanics. In addition, they will need to work with laboratory and data scientists to develop appropriate strategies for high content data visualization and analysis for improved screening accuracy and efficiency.
Must haves for the position:
- Ph.D. in bioengineering or related biological sciences with 2 yrs of postgraduate experience
- Experience in design and use of microphysiological systems is essential
- Experience with human cardiomyocyte cell culture is desired
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work within multi-disciplinary teams
- A proven track record of independently designing, executing, and analyzing experiments including timely documentation
Daily Job Tasks
This is a hands-on job with many tasks and responsibilities. Daily tasks will entail -
- Hands on stem cell-based cell culture and fabrication of microphysiological systems – creating, maintaining, and testing cardiac tissue chip systems.
- Equipment procurement, process design and system integration. Set up, use, and troubleshoot the equipment that drives the company.
- Communication with other team members to solve problems. Brainstorming solutions both in and out of your field of expertise.
