POSITION OVERVIEW
Responsible for managing the execution, direction, and coordination of transportation matters. Supervises employee performance, manages driver assignments, monitors compliance with safety standards and ensures that vehicles are safe and meet legal requirements. Trains drivers and makes sure they are aware of their duties. Provides exceptional customer service. Performs related work as required.
REPORTS TO: Warehouse Manager
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
With Little or No Supervision or Direction:
• Plans, schedules, directs, and controls the timely shipment of outbound orders.
• Coordinates the pick-up of incoming material in conjunction with the customer service team.
• Manages shipments from private carriers including UPS and FedEx.
• Provides initial, periodic, and remedial driver training associated with safety and situational protocols, proper tie-down techniques, customer service, and order and delivery documentation.
• Monitors and assesses the key performance indicators associated with matters of transportation.
• Manages in-house transportation processes with a focus on efficient on-time, low-cost operations.
• Oversees the Company’s truck preventive maintenance program.
• Maintains current driver license and medical card rosters.
• Manages the Company’s CHP Pull Notice Program.
• Administers state and federal transportation requirements with respect to drivers and Company vehicles.
• Ensures that drivers properly complete and maintain driving log in accordance with Company policies and government regulations.
• Safeguards driving records in accordance with Company policies and government regulations.
• Ensures that drivers complete daily truck maintenance checklists and follow all other related Company transportation policies.
• Provides support to drivers throughout the work day, both on Company property and in the field.
• Addresses all transportation-related safety concerns and questions posed by drivers or customers.
• Investigates driver and truck incidents including the issuance of administrative and motor vehicle citations received in the course of delivery, accidents, property damage caused by trucks and material falling off the trucks.
• Administers informal and formal counseling sessions with drivers as needed.
• Provides feedback and evaluation of the performance of drivers in accordance with Company policy.
• Drives on company business.
• Performs other duties as required.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES
In accordance with applicable organizational policies/procedures and Federal/State laws, may perform the following supervisory responsibilities:
Interviewing, hiring orienting and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; coaching and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/CORE COMPETENCIES

• Exercising independent judgement and decision making based on standard policy or working procedures.
• Knowledge of and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite computer software.
• Knowledge of and proficiency in IMS business systems.
• Knowledge of policies, rules, and regulations associated with modern fleet management, the State of California, and the United States Department of Transportation.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of sound personnel management and supervision.
• Strong communicator with the ability to work closely and professionally with customers.
• Thoroughness in completing tasks and focused on quality output.
• Strong customer, quality and results orientation.
• Strong detail orientation and understanding of safe work processes and procedures.
SKILLS

• Proficiency in operating modern desktop computers, related software, and related modern office equipment.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite computer software.
• Proficiency in utilizing IMS business systems.
• Proficiency in using modern fleet management software and equipment, such as GPS vehicle monitoring.
• Operating a pallet jack, an order picker, and a wood and Skill saw.
• Operating a caliper, tape measure, micrometer, and battery charging station.
• Knows when to ask for help in completing tasks.

REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS
• High school graduation or equivalent.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATES
The following are the licenses and/or certificates which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.
• Must possess a valid California Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent, maintained throughout course of employment.
