We are looking for a Senior Program Manager to join our Space client. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining existing customer relationships and driving new customer relationships. This role includes overseeing all phases of program activity, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and managing cost, schedule, and performance. The Senior Program Manager will oversee complex projects for defense contractors and government agencies, ensuring success from start to finish.
What you will be doing:
- Oversee cost, schedule, and technical performance of assigned programs/projects. Lead specific phases from program initiation to completion. Monitor program budgets and guide multi-disciplinary teams.
- Act as the main point of contact for customer interface regarding program details, ensuring program profitability.
- Foster strong relationships both internally and externally.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers on program execution.
- Apply a solid understanding of systems engineering, manufacturing processes, and hardware/software development processes.
- Lead risk management efforts by identifying risks and implementing mitigation plans.
- Provide leadership for assigned program teams, coordinating efforts across functional departments.
- Support business development efforts by ensuring program growth and capturing new opportunities consistent with company strategy.
- Understand the defense and aerospace industry, including contractors and sensor/encoder technology.
- Present program status to executive management as needed.
- Possess strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrate leadership with a proven track record of meeting objectives and satisfying customer requirements.
- Participate in proposal generation or demonstrate a willingness to learn.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Travel up to 25% to support external customers.
- Manage projects using Microsoft Project.
- Create and present professional-grade presentations.
Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline is required. Preference for Electrical, Mechanical, or Opto-Mechanical Engineering. An MBA is desirable.
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience as a Program/Project Manager, including budget management and meeting performance objectives.
- 10+ years of Program Management in aerospace or defense programs with a strong understanding of government contract regulations.
Other:
- Strong problem-solving skills, capable of evaluating technical and non-technical facets and making sound decisions.
- Ability to simplify complex technical messages and present them to both engineering audiences and senior management.
- Proficiency in creating professional PowerPoint presentations.
- Experience handling complex program requirements and working under pressure.
- Builds and maintains strong, long-term relationships in the defense industry.
- Expertise in executing new product/program developments, managing risks, and applying earned-value management principles.
- Experience with contract negotiation is a plus, along with familiarity with relevant regulations.
