Virtual Production Stage Operator
• Pier 59 Studios is seeking a full-time Virtual Production Stage Operator to join the Virtual Production team to support Virtual Production shoots and events as well as work with immersive real-time experiences. Virtual Production is a new and constantly evolving field; the ideal candidate has a hunger for knowledge about Virtual Production workflows and technologies and will keep up with trends in the field.
Key Responsibilities
• Operate media server systems such as Disguise and Assimilate LiveFX to present content to the LED volume during Virtual Productions shoots.
• Manage the organization, format conversions and ingestion of 2D assets for media servers.
• Basic image manipulation of imagery going to the LED volume (modifying color, contrast, as needed).
• Assist with support of the whole virtual production environment, including LED walls, video processors and camera tracking systems.
• Organize and performing basic maintenance of virtual production computer environment Mission Control area (“brain bar”)
• Ability to configure and run a variety of camera tracking systems (Stype Redspy, Retracker Bliss).
• Work closely with the Virtual Production Supervisor and Creative Director to develop efficient Virtual Production workflows and innovate new techniques
• Understanding of the setup and execution of lens encoding and calibration.
• Configure Unreal Engine scenes for deployment on Virtual Production volume.
• Managing/maintaining AV signal flow and cabling.
• Identify bottlenecks and limitations in virtual production pipeline and tools and help to design and implement solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve any issues arising with the AV workflow and software
• Maintaining and expanding internal documentation (using Notion).
Requirements
• High degree of organization with attention to detail
• Familiarity with the Virtual Production capabilities of Unreal Engine.
• Competent level of IT skills
• Knowledge of AV signal flow
• Awareness and some basic knowledge of Media Server systems – (e.g. Disguise, Watchout, LiveFX)
• Previous work experience on set, with theatre, film/TV studio (or similar), corporate or live events
• Self-starter with a 'can do' attitude
• Ability to communicate complex technical issues to internal production staff.
• Work independently and effectively under tight deadlines.
• A natural problem solver, able to operate effectively in high-pressure situations
• Strong communication skills
Job training will be provided in key areas such as system infrastructure, Disguise operation, camera tracking systems, etc.
Salary $80,000 to $120,000 commensurate with professional experience
