POSITION SUMMARY
To ensure the availability and reliability of all container handling equipment in a cost-effective manner and to ensure that maintenance technicians acquire the necessary skills and competencies to affect continuous improvement in the process.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Ensures that all equipment (mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical etc.) are operating and available to full capacity to meet the needs of the operations department.
· Ensures all regulatory (federal, state, and local) inspections, certifications and compliance of Cargo Handling Equipment is maintained and current.
· Minimizes equipment downtime in support of operations by responding quickly to breakdown situations when applicable.
· Creates teams to methodically trouble shoot all the terminals container handling equipment (STS Cranes, Toppick, Tractors, Forklifts, Trailers, etc.).
· Ensures that the respective teams carry out planned maintenance on equipment and contribute to continuous improvements on machines and processes.
· Manage and supervise contractors.
· Manages the preventive maintenance program for the repair and modification of machines.
· Targets quality issues with improvement projects focused on removing root sources of defects.
· Manage stock of spare parts for different sites.
· Identifies and resolves recurring problems using cross-functional teams.
· Ensures the transfer of skills and competencies to all local team members.
· Provides the senior management with weekly progress reports.
· Assists with the preparation of the annual Engineering operational and Capex budgets.
· Performs any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Welding experience and knowledge preferred.
· Background working with and maintaining hydraulic equipment.
· Manage, forecast, and assess cost and inventory items for department needs.
· Strong ability to manage a team of approximately 20 people.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor's degree in Engineering or similar preferred.
· A minimum of 5 years in leadership-management position.
· A minimum of 5 years maintaining heavy equipment, specialized container terminal equipment preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Ability to perform repetitive lifting upwards of 25+ lbs with or without assistance on a frequent basis.
· Ability to push/pull 25+ lbs with or without assistance on a regular basis.
· Ability to work in an industrial environment
· Ability to pass a respirator fitness test on an annual screening basis.
· Work is performed in an arctic environment approximately 25% of the time, exposure to extreme cold and wind on a periodic basis.
