Overview
Responsible for Facilities of Longhouse & Cultural Center, Building maintenance, Security, and Risk Management. Perform routine maintenance, Scheduling inspections and repairs. Ensure proper security measures for the Longhouse. Create maintenance, repairs, safety and risk management and facility preparation reports.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Building operations: Handles all day-to-day Longhouse operations. Supports daily opening & closing of Longhouse facility. Has primary responsibility for the security of the building, physical assets, and storage facilities. Ensures building and office supplies are properly stocked. Operates and maintains custodial functions.
- Security and risk management: Has primary responsibility for building security. Maintains all security alarm, warning, and camera systems. Uses standard operating procedures, practices and good judgement to minimize and/or avoid facility related risk. Monitors all security both interior and exterior of DTS assets.
- Property: Oversees and arranges for all Duwamish-owned property entering and leaving the DTS Property. Inventories and maintains DTS Assets and Property. Schedules regular maintenance (HVAC: heating, ventilation, air conditioning, window & gutter cleaning, hood & duct cleaning). Ensures systems are in good working order. Regularly inventories property and physical assets. Maintains all supplies as needed, office and otherwise.
- Tours and Rentals: Assists event coordinator with tours and rental set up and tear down. Restocks custodial supplies (shared by all staff) and ensures DTS facilities are in proper working order. Provides brief tours of “Great Hall” and/or kitchen when needed. Assists with set-up and break-down as required. Directs event coordination as needed.
- Supervision: Supervises all maintenance-related contractors and rental/tour-related vendors and contractors as needed.
- Kitchen & restrooms: Ensures kitchen is sanitary, clean, and meets all health code requirements. Ensures all kitchen equipment is in good operating order. Ensures that day-to-day kitchen items are fully stocked and available for use. Arranges for timely general cleaning of kitchen. Maintains all safety, compliance, invoices, product information guides, user manuals, warrantees and purchase receipts records as required.
- Grounds and maintenance: Supervises maintenance-related work as necessary. Maintains all DTS property in a good condition at all times.
- Gift shop: Supports gift shop operations. Ensures all display hardware is in working order. Coordinates with staff regarding usage and organization of storage areas.
- Communications: Monitors and respond’s to email, texts, posts and phone messages in a timely manner. Works and communicates with staff, guests, contractors vendors and volunteers.
- Records: Maintains monthly maintenance and repair records.
Qualifications and Preferred Skills
- Tribal history: Possesses working knowledge of the history of the Duwamish Indian Tribe and other local tribes.
- Operations experience: Knowledge of a wide range of operational concepts and principles of the logistical management of facilities, resources, supplies, equipment, food, staff, time, etc. Knowledge of the integration of information, material, production, packaging, inventory, transportation, warehousing and security.
- Supervisory controls: Employee’s supervisor provides administrative direction with assignments that are broadly defined.
- Terms: Employee has responsibility for planning, designing, and carrying out work independently.
- Physical: Requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, reaching and lifting of moderately heavy items and boxes. Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds.
- Complexity: The work consists of a broad range of multifaceted activities, functions, processes and members, intertribal activities, public activities and events.
- Personal contacts: Personal contacts are with Duwamish Tribal Members, other tribes, high-ranking officials, the general public, donors & sponsors, volunteers, educational, grant granting groups, financial, utility organizations and contractors and vendors.
- Work environment: Work is generally performed inside and outside the Longhouse.
Supervisor: Reports directly to Longhouse Director
Located at: 4705 West Marginal Way SW, Seattle, WA 98106
Guidelines: Policies, Procedures, Maintenance and repair manuals.
Work week: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm. May work rotating Sundays (seasonally) and evenings to attend meetings and to support special events and venue rentals as needed.
Hours & Wage: 40 hours/week : $25-28.00 an hour
Paid sick leave: 1 hour per week worked
