Paralegal Role
As a Life Insurance Paralegal, you'll support the Senior Vice President of Compliance and Secretary in managing key compliance and regulatory functions. Your role will involve overseeing day-to-day operations and ensuring the smooth handling of various tasks.
Work closely with junior staff, providing coaching on routine matters. Identify complex issues and escalate them as needed.
Manage SERFF filings from start to finish, including form creation, rate adjustments, and informational submissions. Research regulations, competitor products, and coordinate with stakeholders to address objections and revise forms.
Handle consumer and regulatory complaints by researching applicable laws, interpreting contract language, drafting responses, and maintaining consistent and accurate complaint records.
Conduct regulatory and internal investigations, ensuring thorough and compliant outcomes.
Utilize tools like ACLI and NAIC. Set up systems to track and implement legal and regulatory changes affecting the company.
Review and approve advertising content, manage regulatory filings, and enhance the advertising system for improved user experience while ensuring compliance.
Oversee daily management of regulatory examinations.
Manage new product rollouts, form updates, and product catalogs. Handle contract issues, including research, advice, and drafting/revising legal documents.
Assist with third-party administrator audits and holding company filings. Draft compliance reports for quarterly reviews and maintain departmental files.
Paralegal Background Profile
Minimum of 5 years in a legal or compliance role, with at least 1 year in the life insurance sector.
Proficiency in SERFF, NAIC, and I-File systems.
Experience with legal research tools like Westlaw and general software such as Microsoft Office.
Strong understanding of insurance product administration and state-based regulatory systems. Relevant industry designations are a plus.
Excellent organizational and recordkeeping abilities. Demonstrated ability to audit policy files and procedures effectively.
