Counsel - Labor & Employment
Provides legal advice and operational support on all issues related to labor and employment. Counsels on day-to-day labor and employment matters, including, but not limited to, federal and state compliance, employee relations (hiring, firing, performance, compensation, etc.), wage & hour, harassment and discrimination investigations, restrictive covenants, independent contractor agreements, handbook policies, and leaves of absence/disability accommodations. Manages an immigration caseload with support from in-house paralegals and outside immigration attorneys. Specifically supports the Associate General Counsel - Labor & Employment; and generally supports the Legal team, HR department, and leadership as needed. Assists with management of outside counsel involving any labor & employment matters.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES
- Research and provide advice on employment law issues, including hiring, compensation, discipline, terminations, pay and benefits.
- Counsel HR and leaders on employee relations matters, including coaching, discipline, accommodation requests and benefits issues.
- Assist in or lead investigations into alleged employee misconduct.
- Review and provide input on policies, procedures and specific cases involving employment laws such as FMLA, ADA, FLSA, and Title VII as well as state law equivalents.
- Assist outside counsel in the processing and management of immigration cases.
- Assist outside counsel with all aspects of responding to and managing administrative claims/charges, demand letters, and litigation.
- Assist Legal team as needed, including matters outside of labor and employment law.
- Other miscellaneous matters as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university and J.D. from accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law.
- 3-4 years’ experience with labor and employment law in a law firm or in-house setting.
- High competency with communicating legal advice verbally and in writing.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills.
