A reputable manufacturing client in the Metro Detroit area is seeking a Controls Engineer to join their team. This is a direct hire position with competitive compensation and a bonus included.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design hardware and software for automation systems, including electrical, pneumatic, PLC, HMI, and drives.
- Create and update bills of material for electrical designs.
- Work with project management to keep all drawings, bills of materials, manuals, sequence of operation, and PLC/HMI programs accurate and up-to-date.
- Participate in project kick-off meetings, lessons learned meetings, and project status meetings.
- Develop and review electrical and fluid drawings, schematics, and manuals.
- Design PLC software programs and create HMI screens according to customer specifications.
- Provide product improvement suggestions and feedback to project management.
Requirements:
- Proficiency with 2D AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Electrical is essential. Knowledge of EPLAN is beneficial.
- Strong familiarity with Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs and HMIs. Experience with other PLCs, HMIs, and operating systems (e.g., Mitsubishi, Omron, Modicon/Telemecanique) is advantageous.
- Knowledge of various drives, robots, welding systems, adhesive dispensing, and other relevant technologies.
- Preferably 3-5 years of experience in controls systems engineering.
- B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience in robot programming is valued, with platforms including ABB, Kuka, Fanuc, Yaskawa/Motoman, Nachi, etc.
- Willingness to travel approximately 30% locally and within North America, including Canada and Mexico.
