Hydraulic Engineer Description:
The System Design team is responsible for the liquid hydraulic design and analysis of all the work being developed or executed by the Projects organization.
The primary focus of this position is to complete and/or oversee the pipeline and facility hydraulic design for projects throughout their lifecycle (including planning, design, procurement, construction, and start-up), using a broad understanding of the field of engineering and specialized understanding of hydraulic design to balance function, cost, safety, and operational reliability.
Specific Accountabilities:
• Conduct hydraulic studies using modelling software to design pipeline and facility systems
• Provide direction and technical oversight to external engineering consultants who are performing hydraulic design work on behalf of *** to ensure their work meets performance expectations for safety, quality, cost, and schedule.
• Coach junior team members on hydraulic design and proper engineering practices
• Drive competitiveness and improvements to internal and external design standards, leveraging experience as a Subject Matter Expert in hydraulics and experience in project management
• Collaborate with Project Development Leads, Project Execution Engineers, and other stakeholders to develop optimized designs that balance function, cost, safety & operational reliability with consideration for capital vs. operating costs. Promote the mindset strategic priority of “thinking like an owner”
• Lead collaboration with key project stakeholders to ensure that design details are addressed in a thorough manner, through a stakeholder review process
• Adhere to all internal and external standards and follow proper engineering practices, ensuring hydraulic designs also fit regional design practices when applicable
• Identify project scenarios that require hydraulic transient modeling to ensure proposed designs are operable under transient conditions. Lead the execution of transient modeling activities
• Lead value engineering design and continuous improvement of the System Design group through knowledge gathering and sharing lessons learned and best practices
• Provide leadership, mentoring and training to other *** Business Units. Develop training documentation, tools and technical seminars for *** staff.
Scope:
• Work on complex technical hydraulic design including scoping, modeling, analysis, and reporting.
• Support the Project Development team in developing hydraulic solutions
• Provide specialized technical hydraulic knowledge.
Contact:
Internal Communications:
• Liaison with key Internal Stakeholder groups, high collaboration with departments such as (but not limited to): PETH, Control Center, Project Development, Project Execution, Infrastructure Planning, Risk Management, Asset Management, Engineering Services.
• Communication may be written or verbal and aimed at technical and non-technical audiences
• Accountable to People Leader who provides supervision, direction, and coaching.
External Communications:
• Ad-hoc collaboration with key External Stakeholder groups such as (but not limited to): Engineering Consultants, Third Party customers
Working Condition:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Required:
• University degree in Engineering.
• Seven or more years of experience in engineering design and project management directly related to liquid hydrocarbon pipeline and facility design in the oil and gas industry.
• Knowledge in liquid hydraulic modeling and design, including pipelines and terminal facilities including some familiarity with SPS and Fathom software suites.
• Knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, and standards
• Proven ability to be innovative, initiate, and lead change.
• Interpersonal, communication and technical leadership skills.
• Desire to coach, mentor and guide using clear goals and providing feedback.
