Firmware Engineer Co-op
Successful candidate will join CAIRE’s Research & Development team at the global headquarters in Georgia. This individual will work on CAIRE’s oxygen therapy medical devices, with a focus on electronic embedded system design, as part of larger cross-disciplinary electro-mechanical design teams. This engineer co-op will be mentored by a senior firmware engineer and will be responsible for individual project tasks supporting the development team working on oxygen therapy medical device products.
This on-site position is a hands-on engineering position with time spent in the office and laboratory. This position will be based out of the Canton/Ball Ground location of CAIRE, which is approximately 30 minutes north of the greater Atlanta, GA area. This is not a hybrid or remote opportunity.

Required Experience:
Pursuing a BS Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
Firmware or software programming experience, languages may include C/C++/C#
Ability to debug embedded firmware running on PCBA hardware, using oscilloscope and other lab equipment.
- Working knowledge of computers, including MS Word, Excel, and Office Suite programs.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and in team settings.
- Basic understanding of fundamentals within software and electrical design.
Preferred Experience:
- Previous work or internship experience
- Experience with programmable devices such as ARM, PIC, SoC microcontrollers.
- Experience with serial communication protocols, such as RS-232, I2C, SPI, USB.
- Experience with integrated Mixed Signal (analog & digital) systems and sensor integration.
- Experience with control systems, such as brushless DC motor control and electro-pneumatic systems.
- Experience implementing wireless solutions for Bluetooth, WIFI, and/or Cellular.
Job Functions:
- Perform testing and development tasks for electro-mechanical medical devices with the cross functional design team.
- Troubleshoot and determine corrective measures for prototype designs and quality defects.
- Write firmware/software design documentation and test protocols. Perform informal verification testing and write test reports.
- Utilize programmable hardware and microcontrollers interfacing analog and digital sensors, user interface display and controls, motor control, and electro-pneumatic systems control with pressure feedback.
- Firmware development activities may include design, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting to meet task requirements.
- Develop test and diagnostics software to support bench testing
- Observe and practice safety procedures and policies.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Ability to work in an office and lab environment.
This position will require the ability to move around the office and engineering lab.
Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for 8 hrs/day.
May need to lift up to 40 lbs.
