Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Design Manager A/E Services to lead and manage the planning and execution of key capital projects for LAUSD. This role requires a deep understanding of facilities design and project management within the educational sector, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 8 years of full-time paid professional experience in managing facilities design or capital projects, including design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling.
- At least 4 years of this experience must be specifically in the design, planning, and construction of educational facilities or similar public agencies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering from a recognized college or university.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California State Architectural Board or as a Professional Engineer by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage, develop, and coordinate the district’s design process for A&E Services to ensure that plans are within functional program, budgetary, environmental, and legal requirements.
- Oversee multiple projects, including engineering repairs and critical repairs, through interaction with Architects, consultants, and District personnel to ensure timely project completion.
- Supervise the building design process to ensure compliance with LAUSD’s standards and guidelines by working with design professionals and various District administrators.
- Establish and follow a process to identify and select the architectural firm best suited for each project based on qualifications and performance standards.
- Provide Architects with clear and consistent direction regarding goals and objectives, standards, site requirements, schedule, and budget for each project.
- Establish and follow an effective and efficient design review process to ensure that designs meet overall goals and objectives.
- Ensure maximum value for dollars budgeted, with solutions that are appropriate and enduring to meet the functional needs of the district, local community, and environment.
- Review design changes to ensure projects remain within budget.
- Monitor project planning and design status, reporting findings, recommendations, and updates.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
