We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Personal Injury/VCF Paralegal to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will provide vital support to attorneys handling cases related to the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF). The VCF Paralegal will manage client communications, gather and organize necessary documentation, and assist in the preparation and filing of claims. This role requires a deep understanding of the VCF claims process, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
You must have a few years of personal injury experience for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Claim Preparation: Assist in the preparation and filing of VCF claims, including the gathering and review of medical records, employment records, and other relevant documentation.
- Client Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing regular updates on the status of their claims and addressing any questions or concerns they may have.
- Document Management: Organize and maintain client files, ensuring that all documentation is complete, accurate, and up to date for each VCF claim.
- Legal Research: Conduct legal research related to VCF regulations and guidelines to ensure compliance and maximize claim benefits for clients.
- Medical Record Review: Work closely with medical professionals to obtain and review medical records, ensuring they meet the criteria established by the VCF.
- Employment Verification: Coordinate with employers to obtain and verify employment records that are critical to the VCF claims process.
- Docket Management: Track and manage important deadlines for filing and responding to VCF claims, ensuring timely submission of all required documents.
- Data Entry: Accurately enter client information and claim details into the VCF’s online portal and the firm’s case management system.
- Supporting Attorneys: Provide comprehensive support to attorneys in all aspects of VCF claims, including preparing legal documents, organizing evidence, and assisting with hearings or appeals as needed.
- Client Advocacy: Advocate for clients by ensuring that all aspects of their claim are thoroughly documented and that they receive the full compensation to which they are entitled under the VCF.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or a related field. Paralegal certification is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a paralegal, with specific experience in VCF claims or related compensation funds.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of the VCF claims process, including eligibility requirements, documentation standards, and the claims submission process.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using case management software, VCF’s online portal, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple claims simultaneously.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive client interactions with empathy and professionalism.
- Discretion: Ability to handle confidential information with the highest level of discretion and integrity.
- Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, medical professionals, and other team members while also managing independent tasks.
