Rogue Talent is hiring a Platform Security Engineer who will be the top voice and key contributor to maturing the modern infrastructure capabilities of a legendary cyber R&D institution based in suburban Boston (hybrid, on-site 3 days/week).
Key areas of focus will be containerization (Kubernetes), IaC (Terraform), CI/CD pipelines, automation, RBAC / IAM, dev and prod infrastructure (Unix/Linux), and application security (Cloud-Native). This Lead Engineer will act as SME on all things "DevSecOps" in support of cyber research teams as well as external partners. You will have a front row seat on the cutting edge of cybersecurity research and related emerging technology, from reverse engineering and exploit development to RF analysis and AI.
Given the critical importance and unique nature of this organization's work -- supporting the likes of the DoD, DoE, NSA, DARPA, NASA, etc. -- ideal candidates will have active or previous security clearance (e.g. secret, TS/SCI), or otherwise be willing to obtain. US citizenship is required.
Scope:
- Enable and empower the research and engineering teams by designing, building and optimizing modern infrastructure & platform operations that are secure by default.
- Develop standards and best practices for Platform Engineering (CI/CD, IaC, automation, etc.) and the integration of infrastructure security best practices in a modern R&D lab environment.
- Participate in and lead threat modeling, security reviews, and design critiques, to identify risk and improve overall security posture as it relates to platform infrastructure, internal & external partner data, and mission-critical research.
- Act as the domain expert in platform / infrastructure operations security, providing regular insight across high-caliber tech research groups as well as external partners.
Qualifications:
- 6+ years of experience in DevSecOps and Platform Infrastructure Engineering, with a background rooted in software development or cloud/network infrastructure.
- In-depth experience with emerging security threats, vulnerabilities, and mitigations for modern platform infrastructure stacks.
- Proficiency in identifying and quantifying gaps, communicating issues/opportunities, and developing solutions that demonstrate risk reduction and drive DevSecOps optimization.
- Experience leading cross-functional and collaborative risk mitigation efforts, working with both product and engineering teams in a cutting edge R&D laboratory setting.
- Strong experience with IaC solutions such as Terraform, CloudFormation or CDM.
- A passion for coaching, mentoring others and/or client-facing opportunities.
Comp:
- $175-195K base salary, determined by mutual fit, depth of engineering skills, credentials (education, clearance), and ability to lead Platform Security capabilities through ambiguity.
- Outstanding employment benefits including generous pension, fully paid/arranged relocation services, continuous learning package (courses, certs, DEFCON), wildly flexible PTO policy, and much more.
