Benefits Specialist

Job Purpose: The Benefits Specialist has full responsibility for the administration of all health, disability and retirement benefit plans and policies. Ensuring compliance of all such programs is a critical component of this role. This position is responsible for coordinating with vendors for plan audits, and handles all employee inquires.
Essential Functions and Accountabilities:
- Serves as a point of contact for all employees with questions about benefits, including running onboarding sessions, ongoing employee education, and resolving escalated benefits issues.
- Develops and administers employee benefit programs including health insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, flexible spending accounts (FSAs), health savings account (HSA), leave of absence, commuter benefits, 401k and wellness offerings.
- Stays abreast with the US Healthcare compliance laws, regulations, and enforcement in order to understand how they impact RMA.
- Manages all compliance related matters, including but not limited to completion of Form 5500s, applicable healthcare ordinances (i.e., City of San Francisco), HIPAA, ERISA, and non-discrimination testing in accordance with federal, state and city regulations.
- Coordinates or facilitates compliance related tasks in partnership with external vendors where applicable.
- Provides necessary monthly/quarterly reports for allocation/billing charges for benefits programs.
- Reviews weekly/monthly benefit eligibility reporting to ensure accuracy within our internal HRIS system and with external vendor partners.
- Liaisons with external benefits vendors and handles other ad hoc projects as needed.
Academic Training:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or another related field – required
- Studies level: University Education (Bachelor's Degree)
- Studies area: Human Resources or other related field
Position Requirements/Experience:
- 3-5 years of benefits administration in a company consisting of at least 500 employees
- Experience with benefit plan design, renewal and open enrollment
- Proficiency with applicable disability laws (i.e., ADA, FMLA, Workers Compensation)
- Familiarity with US healthcare system and corporate employee benefits programs including administering health plans nationwide (i.e., California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or Florida).
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with MS Office applications with Excel mastery.
