Director of Product Design
Futrus is America’s leading innovator, manufacturer and retailer of hygienic sinks, furniture, casework and headwalls, designed with Corian solid surface. We have an immediate need for a full-time Director of Product Design to join our passionate, innovative, and diverse team with the flexibility to work remotely.
As Director of Product Design, you will be a guru in drawing and construction detailing, with the ability to direct our company's product design and fabrication teams efforts, while also producing content for projects with meticulous attention to detail. You will also support our Project Management, Sales and Quoting Teams.
You will be extremely well organized, highly-detail orientated, have excellent team skills, extensive computer design skills, work with minimal supervision and have a passion for product design and construction.
Only candidates who demonstrate an extensive background in commercial architectural millwork detailing, furniture fabrication drafting/detailing, and strong CAD skills will be considered for this position. Candidates with healthcare design, architectural, Product or Project Management experience are preferred.
You will report directly to our Company President/Chief Innovations Officer and your performance will be appraised according to your design, drafting, detailing and engineering skills, drawing speed and accuracy, team leadership, presentation and organizational skills, ability to capture and relay detailed design information to suppliers, computer/technology skills, professional approach and ability to represent the Futrus brand.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and the company’s design, fabrication & detailing output
- Oversee the drawing submittal process, including Materials; Manufacturing; Tooling; Hardware selection; Translation of market requirements to product specifications; CAD documentation; BOM; Technical drawings & reviews; Product testing; Implementation, Guides & Assembly Instructions
- Lead and produce product/project sketches & designs during the qualification/quoting/design development process to help the fabrication & sales team determine constructability & budgetary pricing
- Innovate new product designs that optimize manufacturability
- Provide final approval and sign off on client and manufacturing drawings
- Lead & manage BOM’s & material purchases for determined product lines
- Determine nature of technical problems & possible solutions such as product redesign, substitution of materials/parts/hardware & subassemblies
- Lead quality control of specific product lines, packaging & processes
- Increase efficiency and accuracy by 50% for the facilitation of custom projects & specific product lines
- Reduce errors related to product manufacturing due to oversights in the design process
- Assist Project Manager to ensure smooth delivery of specific projects & product lines
- Oversee vendors & drawing submittal process to meet lead time and delivery dates
- Assist Project Manager with shipping & packaging details to ensure smooth & damage-free delivery
- Involvement with seeking out & approving new manufacturing suppliers
Strategic Work
- Accurately oversee, develop, generate, prepare and maintain detailed templates/drawings and designs for standardization of all product lines
- Build Product Traceability Database (Suppliers, Materials, Locations)
- Find ways to improve new or streamline existing products, manufacturing processes or company processes
- Maintain, foster & support excellent relationships with clients and partner fabricators
- Support, develop and capture company design processes to help improve efficiency and ways of working
- Support integration of designs into Futrus Enterprize Quoting platform
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- 10+ years min. experience in commercial furniture design, drafting and fabrication detailing/engineering
- Extremely detail orientated & ability to multi-task
- Advanced understanding of Sketchup/Layout and complete understanding of Sketchup Library
- Ability to create Parametric Models. Deadline driven & able to manage time effectively & prioritize tasks
- Must have the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new computer programs and systems, such as Monday.com , Slack, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, CAD
- Excellent communication written, numerical and telephone skills
- Independent thinker & ability to work within & build strong teams
- Ability to build relationships, trust, respect & productive interactions
- Highly self-motivated and able to thrive in a fast paced, growing company
- Bachelor’s degree and formal design certification(s) preferred
SALARY & BENEFITS
- Salary – From $140k, based on qualifications & experience
