JOB ANNOUNCEMENT - IMMIGRATION ATTORNEY
DESCRIPTION:
Southern Arizona Legal Aid, Inc. (SALA) is hiring a full-time staff attorney for its Immigration VAWA Project located in its Tucson Office. The project is based in the Tucson SALA office, but the advocate may be asked to represent clients residing in rural counties served by SALA. The advocate will be responsible for representing applicants seeking legal immigration status pursuant to the provisions of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and other Immigration regulations protecting victims of violence and crime before the Immigration and Naturalization Service and in Immigration Court. Duties will also include outreach to domestic violence shelters, and development of educational materials on the immigration provisions of VAWA. Criminal background check required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
- Must be a member of the Arizona Bar or applicants licensed 2 years in another jurisdiction may practice by special rule; or eligible for Full or Partial accreditation through USCIS; preferred applicants must have 1-3 years of legal experience working with immigrants or in immigration law and/or with survivors of domestic violence, and be bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Applicants must exhibit a high degree of sensitivity to the problems of the low income community and should be able to work with low income and community groups.
- In addition, applicants should be knowledgeable in the area of general civil practice and specifically general civil practice on behalf of the poor community.
COMPENSATION:
Salary range $50,050 - $86,962 DOE; Up to five percent additional compensation to individuals fluent in Spanish. Payment of bar exam and admission fees for those not yet admitted. Student loan repayment assistance. Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) eligibility. Excellent benefits package including health insurance, disability insurance, and pension plan.
