We are seeking a skilled Linux Support Engineer for a full time position based out of Philadelphia. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing Linux environments while also having a strong understanding of networking protocols and video streaming technologies. You’ll work in a dynamic, hands-on role that combines system administration, networking, and field support, ensuring optimal performance of video data systems and IT infrastructure across multiple sites.

Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (CentOS, Ubuntu, Red Hat, etc.) across on-premise and cloud environments.
- Perform routine system monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance to ensure high availability and performance.
- Implement security patches, system updates, and backups to maintain system integrity.
- Automate repetitive tasks using shell scripting, Python, or other relevant scripting languages.
- Provide on-site IT support, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hardware, networking equipment, and video data technologies (e.g., broadcasting and transcoding systems).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy and support video streaming technologies, ensuring seamless data transmission and video quality.
- Configure and troubleshoot network switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless systems in both office and field environments.
- Manage IT equipment and network infrastructure for video data collection, processing, and transmission.
- Support network-based video systems, including setup, configuration, and monitoring of video transcoding and broadcasting technologies.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to video data streaming, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
- Perform network diagnostics and optimizations, ensuring efficient traffic routing for high-bandwidth video data.
- Collaborate with broadcast engineers to support video capture, encoding, and distribution across IP networks.
- Travel to various locations for IT field support, ensuring on-site setup and proper functioning of IT systems, video broadcasting equipment, and network configurations.
- Provide hands-on troubleshooting and technical support for networking, server hardware, and video streaming systems during live events or deployments.
- Act as a liaison between the field team and IT department to resolve technical issues efficiently.
- Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Provide regular reports on system performance, network activity, and video data operations to management.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for managing video streaming environments and IT infrastructure.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience:
- 3+ years of experience as a Linux Engineer or Administrator managing Linux-based systems in a production environment.
- Hands-on experience with video data technologies, including broadcasting, transcoding, video compression, and IP-based video systems.
- Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, VPN) and experience with network hardware configuration (routers, switches, firewalls).
- Experience with IT field support, including hardware troubleshooting and network setup in office or field environments.
- Proficient in Linux administration (CentOS, Ubuntu, Red Hat) and shell scripting.
- Familiarity with video streaming protocols (HLS, RTMP, RTP) and video codecs (H.264, H.265, MPEG).
- Experience with networking technologies (VLANs, VPNs, DHCP, DNS) and tools like Wireshark for network diagnostics.
- Experience with broadcasting and video transcoding systems, such as FFmpeg, Wowza, or similar platforms.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in fast-paced, field-based environments.
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with field teams, IT staff, and external vendors.
- Ability to travel for field deployments and on-site support as required.
- Previous experience in video broadcasting or streaming environments is highly preferred.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a larger team, handling multiple projects and tasks efficiently.
- Familiarity with DevOps tools (Ansible, Docker) and cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud) is a plus but not required.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to different field locations as needed.
