Cross Country is partnering with our client, a School District in seeking a dedicated and skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support our district's deaf and hard-of-hearing students. This position involves facilitating communication between deaf and hard-of-hearing students and others, ensuring that students can fully engage in classroom activities and educational content. The interpreter will work closely with teachers, providing voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice support and assisting with daily instructional activities.

Hours Per Week: 30
Shift: 7am-3pm
Compensation: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour (Willing to negotiate based on experience)
Essential Functions:
- Interpret classroom information, lectures, discussions, and activities to ensure deaf and hard-of-hearing students understand teacher instructions and content.
- Assist students individually or in groups with lesson assignments across various settings (e.g., general education classrooms, library, PE, music, etc.).
- Implement instructional and behavioral programs under the supervision of assigned teachers to enhance students' academic and life skills.
- Maintain files and records to ensure availability of required information.
- Modify curriculum and classroom materials under teacher supervision to meet the needs of deaf or hard-of-hearing students.
- Tutor students in various subjects to supplement daily classroom activities.
- Monitor and support students during tests, homework, and make-up work.
- Prepare for daily classroom activities, assemblies, and events to ensure clear interpretation for students.
- Provide communication support to facilitate students' understanding of classroom objectives.
- Respond to inquiries from teachers and staff, providing information or referring to appropriate personnel.
- Perform related paraeducator duties to meet the individual needs of students.
Other Functions:
- Attend building and program meetings, open houses, and related in-service activities/workshops as needed.
- Assist other personnel as required to ensure an efficient and effective work environment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
- Prior experience as an educational interpreter or completion of an interpreter training program preferred.
- Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).
- Minimum 4.0 score on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) and passing score on the EIPA written test.
- OR National Interpreter Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) and passing score on the EIPA written test.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in interpreting for deaf and hard-of-hearing students using fluent ASL.
- Understanding of deaf culture, educational techniques for deaf or hard-of-hearing students, and k-12 academic knowledge.
- Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and establish cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and district personnel.
- Strong cultural competence and commitment to equity, with the ability to support the School District's mission to Engage, Educate, and Empower with Equity and Excellence.
