Position Overview and Responsibilities
This senior leadership role will oversee all operational functions within an AS9100-compliant machining facility. As the process owner and key performance indicator (KPI) lead, this position will manage all department heads within the Operations team. The role is an integral part of the site’s leadership team, collaborating directly with executive leadership to shape, drive, and implement strategic business initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with engineering teams to guide the planning and execution of new setups and part industrializations.
- Identify inefficiencies in production and work cross-functionally to develop and implement improvement solutions.
- Maintain and optimize shift structures to ensure continuous operational efficiency and adequate staffing levels.
- Coordinate closely with the Planning team for machine scheduling, resource allocation, and risk assessment.
- Lead and manage the Operations team, setting clear goals and ensuring adherence to company policies.
- Define the strategic direction for manufacturing and engineering teams, leveraging cutting-edge tools to enhance product quality and process efficiency.
- Assist in the development, communication, and implementation of new or revised operational and manufacturing procedures.
- Oversee the creation and review of manufacturing plans and processes.
- Prepare and present business cases to the Executive Team regarding capital investments, tooling, personnel, or training related to operations.
- Advise the sales team on the company’s capacity and technical capabilities for potential new projects, providing preliminary industrialization plans.
- Ensure compliance with job costing procedures and associated initiatives.
- Communicate with Planning to address capacity issues, prioritize projects, and resolve bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with sales, supply chain, and operations to escalate and resolve quality concerns.
- Host supplier visits as needed to address manufacturing challenges and explore solutions.
Qualifications and Preferred Experience
- Attend seminars, training sessions, or customer visits as needed to stay updated on industry best practices.
- Accountability for all business KPIs, including regular reporting and analysis of performance metrics.
- At least 5 years of experience managing engineering teams and scheduling workloads.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a lead machinist or setup engineer.
- Expertise in interpreting blueprints and model-based definitions.
- Significant experience with CNC programming, including conversational programming.
- Proficient in CAM software, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks.
- Familiarity with CMMs, comparators, and other inspection tools and instrumentation.
- Ability to identify non-conformities and develop corrective actions.
- Develop training programs and performance plans for team members.
