How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for monitoring and analyzing quality metrics to expose and resolve part defects and process failures in both the external supply chain and internal manufacturing processes. The Quality Engineer employs a strong working knowledge of quality, engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, service, and business processes to perform root cause analyses and propose/implement action plans to improve product quality.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
Quality Analysis and Metrics:
Analyzes quality metrics/data to identify trends requiring further examination to determine root cause of failure, recommends/implements corrective and preventive action plans, and monitors progress to ensure closure.
Problem Investigation and Resolution:
Investigates manufacturing and customer service generated floor problems and proposes appropriate course of action to resolve issues and prevent recurrence.
Data Management and Reporting:
Correlates data collected within the MRP system and various business databases.
Produces and distributes Quality metric reports.
Supplier Quality Management & Analysis:
Tracks supplier quality performance. Tracks supplier quality performance and communicates non-conformances with internal manufacturing and support departments, external suppliers, and management; issues and tracks Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCAR); monitors RCCAPA to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and improve supplier quality.
Performs analyses and dispositions defects for internally and externally supplied hardware utilizing the NOD, Floor Problem, MRA, Stocksweep, and Rework processes.
Procedure Development and Training:
Recommends and develops Quality procedures/work instructions.
Assists with training department personnel.
Continuous Improvement:
Performs manufacturing process verification and assists in supplier quality audits.
Initiates engineering design change requests to effect product, process, and cost improvements.
General Quality Department Functions:
Ensures compliance with company policies and safety program.
Performs general and miscellaneous functions within the Quality department.
What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience
Experience as a Quality Engineer in a manufacturing environment with a heavy influence in precision machining, fabrication, plating, mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic assembly processes.
Demonstrated ability improving product quality and processes through application of Lean Manufacturing principles and failure analysis methodologies.
Strong working knowledge of standard shop practices and familiarity with quality, engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, service, and business processes.
Ability to read, understand and interpret engineering drawings and a working knowledge of GD&T.
Experience using manual inspection equipment (calipers, micrometers, gages, optical comparator, scopes, etc.).
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail, documentation, communication and follow through to achieve problem resolution/closure.
Self-starter with ability to manage and prioritize daily tasks to meet departmental and company objectives.
Experience with Microsoft Office, Excel, Access, and Word.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Formal training in Lean Manufacturing principles.
Training in GD&T and IPC 600/610/620.
Education & Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical field required.
ASQ or CQE certification preferred.
Certified in GD&T and IPC 600/610/620 preferred.
Travel & Working Environment
8AM – 5PM, Monday – Friday
Must be flexible to work overtime as required.
Machine shop, manufacturing, material storage, and office environments.
Occasional travel may be necessary for training, supplier assessments, etc. Travel may include overnight stays.
Requires performing work at a desk and computer; standing and walking throughout manufacturing and office areas for extended periods, handling of hardware under evaluation, set-up and use of metrology and test equipment, and occasionally involves working outside of facility.
Occasionally lifting objects up to 40lbs without assistance.
