Senior Mechanical Engineer - Robotics Product Development

Job description
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
- Works to improve existing products by analyzing and finding root cause, designing solutions that will not adversely impact existing similar products in the product line.
- Conceptualize, design and develop new automated semiconductor test equipment aligned with the Product Development Plan process.
- Provide project management on existing and new products, including timelines, schedules, design reviews, and writing of functional specs.
- Interfaces with product managers to define requirements
- Develops and implements design procedures for new device packages.
- Research, select and test vendor products.
- Support manufacturing floor and machine shop as required.
- Interface with customers and sales on projects as required.
- Advanced skills in SolidWorks.
Supervisory Responsibility:
Provides work leadership or technical guidance to lower-level employees.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university. M.S. degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of six (6) years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or five years with a Master’s degree in machine design, working with designing gears, racks, mechanisms and movements. Project management experience on existing products including timelines, schedules, design reviews and writing functional specifications. Broad knowledge of electro-mechanical systems required.
Skills/Technical Requirements:
- Knowledge of engineering fundamentals and analytical methods required.
- Ability to manage fast-paced direct product development projects. Requires an understanding of design from a systems engineering perspective.
- Ability to meet objectives within cost targets.
- Experience with designing electro-mechanical parts, subassemblies, gears, racks, mechanisms and movements required.
- Familiarity with automation, robotics, aluminum machining, hardened gears, thermal concerns, wear on materials and aging.
- Well versed in failure element analysis (FEA), mean time between failure (MTBF) and failure modes and effect analysis (FMEA).
- Proficiency with SolidWorks/Cosmos (latest release).
- Practical experience with engineering documentation (i.e. detail drawings, fabrication specifications, Bills of Materials, Engineering Change Orders, etc.)
- In-depth knowledge of GD&T standards and applied experience.
- Strong analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to provide direction and guidance to designers and drafters.
- Ability to work independently on projects and interface effectively with other team members.
