Pay Rate: 65-75/hr
Per Diem: $140 for days worked
Contract Length: 1 year
Reimbursed for milage if travel is over 2 hours
$500 stipend for mobilization
Rotation: 3 weeks on. 1 week off.
Position Overview:
The Protection and Controls Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of protection and control systems in electrical substations and distribution networks. This role ensures the reliability, safety, and efficient operation of power systems, particularly focusing on protective relaying, control equipment, and automation. The supervisor will lead a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring all work is carried out in compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
1- Leadership and Supervision:
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers, technicians, and contractors in protection and controls projects.
- Coordinate and allocate resources for project execution, ensuring timely delivery within budget and quality standards.
- Foster a culture of safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.
2- System Design and Engineering:
- Oversee the design and development of protection and control schemes, including relaying systems, SCADA systems, and automation technologies.
- Approve design plans, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Ensure all systems meet utility, industry, and company standards.
3- Project Management:
- Manage multiple protection and control projects simultaneously, from concept through commissioning.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project alignment and successful execution.
- Monitor project progress, budget, and quality, adjusting plans as needed to meet objectives.
4- Maintenance and Testing:
- Develop and oversee the maintenance and testing programs for protection and control equipment.
- Ensure regular inspections and testing of relays, transformers, circuit breakers, and control systems to minimize downtime and ensure system reliability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve system malfunctions or failures.
5- Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure compliance with NERC, FERC, and other regulatory standards related to protection and control systems.
- Maintain accurate records, including as-built drawings, test results, and equipment data.
- Participate in audits, reviews, and investigations related to protection and control systems.
6-Training and Development:
- Provide technical training and support to team members on protection and control technologies and best practices.
- Stay current with advancements in protective relaying and control systems and incorporate new knowledge into team activities.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in protection and control engineering within the power utility or energy sector, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of protective relays, SCADA systems, PLCs, RTUs, and control equipment in substations and power plants.
- Proven experience with NERC compliance and regulatory standards for electrical systems.
- Proficiency in electrical design software, relay settings, and testing equipment.
- Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.
